Yosef: Gentiles exist only to serve JewsByJONAH MANDEL 10/18/2010 05:13
According to Rabbi, the lives of non-Jews in Israel aresafeguarded by divinity, to prevent losses to Jews.
Talkbacks (72)The sole purpose of non-Jews is to serve Jews, according to Rabbi Ovadia Yosef , the head of Shas’s Council of Torah Sages and a senior Sephardi adjudicator.“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve thePeople of Israel,” he said in his weekly Saturday night sermon on the laws regarding the actions non-Jews are permitted to perform on Shabbat.According to Yosef, the lives of non-Jews in Israel are safeguarded by divinity, to prevent losses toJews.“In Israel, death has no dominion over them... With gentiles, it will be like any person – they need todie, but [God] will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant... That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,” Yosef said.
“Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendiand eat. That is why gentiles were created,” he added.Yosef’s Saturday night sermons have seen many controversial statements from the 90-year-old rabbi. InAugust, Yosef caused a diplomatic uproar when he wished a plague upon the Palestinian people andtheir leaders, a curse he retracted a few weeks later, when he blessed them along with all of Israel’sother peace-seeking neighbors.70. thanks for the clarification

10/19/2010 07:42This is vivid display of ignorance on Yosef's part and many of the commentators here. Based on what? The comments of other supposedly Kodesh men. Religion - the gift of ignorant men trying to controleveryone else because they are supreme.67. Article and Comments are Outrageous!

1) It's outrageous that such a biased anti-religious article would be written taking words out of context.2) The commentators on this article are mostly anti-religious. 3) It's a sin to talk negatively about aTorah giant. 4) It's very clear that much of the meaning of his dvar torah was misquotes or misunderstood by those that want to defame the Torah. 5) That said, there is nothing incorrect in sayingthat Jews should serve G-d and everyone on earth should be helping the Jews to serve G-d's will.Certainly there could be nothing greater for them to do.66. 10/19/2010 06:09 No commentator here actually heard or read Rabbi Yosef's words spoken in Hebrew. Whatever has been said about him by all you geniuses has been based on a translation of an excerpt of a longdiscourse. You have no idea what his context or conceptualization was for the statement quoted. To judge his words at face value reflects the depth of ignorance. I have no idea what he was explaining butneither do any of you. I do know that Jews are G-d's Chosen People (we say that in Kiddush everyFriday nite). Does that make us different from Gentiles? Clearly. If that's a problem, deal with it.65. Yosef
