Rocky Mountain Fabrication (RMF) is a full-service
construction company specializing in the engineering,
fabrication, and field erection of plate steel structures.
We operate from Florida to the Pacific Rim, and from the
North Slope of Alaska all the way down to McMurdo
Station, Antarctica. We work winters in Montana, and sum-
mers in Arizona. We’ve operated as a tank contractor with
up to 250 people on-site, and we’ve operated as a single
man repairing a tank for a few hours. Why do we work like
this? It’s because that’s what our customers demand of us.
Since the inception of RMF in 1978, our focus has been
in providing the finest and most comprehensive steel plate
products to a number of industries, including mining, min-
erals, pulp and paper, petrochemical, wastewater, biofuels,
agricultural, power, and more. From our humble begin-
nings in a small garage in downtown Salt Lake City, to our
current 11.5 acre location at the north end of Salt Lake City,
we have been providing shop fabrication and field erection
services to a wide array of clients.
RMF covers a large selection of products. Although our
mainstay has always been above-ground, flat bottom
storage tanks, we also specialize in clarifier tanks, elevated
thickeners, and anchor channel tanks, as well as field
erected duct work, silos, bins/hoppers, towers/stacks,
scrubbers, reactors, and crystallizers. Having worked with
the Nickel Development Institute to develop techniques and
procedures,
RMF is a pioneer in the installation of nickel
alloy wallpapering/lining, and we’re still the
best source for these applications today.
Also of mention is our ASME Certification with “U”, “U2”
and “R” stamps, enabling us to design, fabricate and erect
pressure vessels and spheres.
RMF consistently works in a variety of materials, includ-
ing carbon steels, stainless steels, duplex, clad steels, and
nickel alloy products. We are constantly refining our proce-
dures and manuals with the enhancement of new welding
materials and equipment. Our experience in all these

RMF’s sales, estimating, engi-
neering, purchasing, and
construction management teams are all
situated in one location. This includes our
shop fabrication facilities, quality control, safety, and
construction supervisory teams. This has proven to be an
asset to RMF in timely problem-solving and overall project
execution. RMF has written its own safety programs for
shop fabrication and field erection, as well as general train-
ing programs. Safety is a primary concern, and our safety
record proves it. Our QA program has evolved over the
years as we have encountered additional potential issues on
projects, and we have taken measures to prevent them from
becoming issues in the future.
RMF boasts its own in-house design capabilities with
registered Professional Engineers as well as our own detail-
ing department that utilizes the latest in computer-aided
design technologies. Our engineering department averages
20 years experience in the plate steel fabrication and erec-
tion industry. Our engineers and detailers often find unique
ways to help our customers save money on design and
implementation of their product.
Our shop fabrication facilities have been continually
refined throughout our history to improve our efficiency,
schedules, accuracy and ultimately cut our costs.
In 2009, RMF completed a 16,000 square foot expansion
of our Salt Lake City facilities. This expansion included a
new plate-squaring gantry capable of cross-square toler-
ances within 1/16”. Also of mention is our new automated
blast cabinet and 5,200 square foot indoor paint facility, as
well as the addition of yard mobilization equipment.
Our field erection crews are some of the best available in
the industry. We realize the lives these people lead in order
to successfully complete your projects aren’t for the faint of
heart. They spend months away from their homes and fam-
ilies so they can complete your project. We have designed
and fabricated our own specialty automated field welding
equipment and fit-up gear as well, further enabling us to
provide our customers with the quality they have
come to expect. We supply our crews with the best
support and equipment available, enabling them to
erect your project to exceed your expectations. It is
because of their sacrifice to RMF and your project that

RMF has the capability of shop or field
welding using the Shielded Metal Arc
Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc
Welding (GMAW), Submerged Arc
Welding (SAW), Flux Cored Arc
Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten
Arc Welding (GTAW) processes.
RMF has welding procedures
qualified to Section IX of the
ASME Boiler and Pressure
Vessel Code. Our shop and field welders
are qualified to Section IX of the ASME Boiler and
Pressure vessel Code. These
knowledgeable person-
nel have the experience
and capability of working
to codes such as API,
AWWA, NFPA, and ASME.
In 2006, RMF shifted focus to remove shop
only fabrication from our services. Over the
years we’ve always done well with our shop
fabrication services, but have shifted focus to
become a field erection company. With this
new focus on field erection, RMF will still
fabricate to support that role.
RMF has invested heavily in our facilities and equipment
to be able to provide a better quality product. We’ve spent
millions of dollars in the past four years in a concentrated
effort to further our entire organization’s capabilities.
RMF has no intention of slowing down our efforts either.
