1. Gender: nouns referring to males or ones that end in –o are masc, and nouns referring to females or ones that end
in –a, -ión, or –dad/–tad are fem.
a. Exceptions include “el mapa,” “el día,” “la mano,” cognantes ending in –ma like “el problema” and “el
programa”
2. Pluralization: Add –s to nouns ending in a vowel, and –es to nouns ending in a consonant.
