EUREKA - A Blue Ribbon Task force looking into Marine Protected Area (MPA) plans
under the Marine Life Protection Act unanimously supported a stakeholders proposal for
putting in place those MPAʼs along the North Coast.

“After months of conversations with fisherman and stakeholders who would be severely
impacted by MLPA I want to urge the Stateʼs Blue Ribbon Commission to approve the
stakeholdersʼ proposal for the North Coast,” said Brooks. “The fishing industry is one of
the last remaining economic drivers along the North Coast and this area simply cannot
afford to lose more jobs. I have always stood by the Fisherman and will work hard to
reverse any of the ill effects the MLPA has brought upon our local economies.”

Karen Brooks is a citizen-candidate running for Californiaʼs First Assembly District,

representing the counties of Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma and
Trinity.
