Overview
Every company knows it is crucial to care for the critical assets on which

IBM Maximo Asset Management provides a single, unified, service
orientated architecture (SOA) platform that supports asset lifecycle and
maintenance management for all asset types — from production
equipment to facilities to transportation assets. This holistic perspective
allows you to gain better visibility and control of your assets across the
entire organization, and to help identify process efficiencies and
optimization across these assets.

IBM Maximo Asset Management configuration tools let you tailor the system, screens, and
business processes to your business needs without altering source code. Configurations are
more easily moved from older versions to the newest version of a product to help ensure you are

The Maximo Asset Management V6.x family of products has been generally available from IBM
since March, 2005, and is now being offered in Passport Advantage®.

operational excellence they seek. Maximo Asset Management products take the power,
performance, and possibilities of asset management to an entirely new level. Built on a service
oriented architecture (SOA), Maximo Asset Management products provide a single software
platform that delivers a comprehensive view of all asset types — production, facilities,
transportation, and IT. This holistic perspective allows you to view the assets across the
enterprise, and to help identify the untapped potential within them. As part of the IBM Tivoli®
software portfolio, Maximo Asset Management products can help optimize the performance of

Turn knowledge into decision-making power and asset performance
In the area of asset management, the Maximo Asset Management product solution has multiple
modules to assist the end user. Six of these key management modules are asset, work, service,
contract, inventory, and procurement management. Together, these modules help you capture
and analyze assets, and work data, and helps in optimizing the maintenance and service
initiatives throughout the enterprise.
Asset management
Achieve greater control in order to more efficiently track and manage asset and location data
throughout the asset lifecycle.
• Track asset detail — including location, work, cost, and other attributes and their history, over
time, to help maximize productivity and extend asset life.
• Establish location and asset hierarchies to roll up costs across systems, subsystems, and
departments enabling a better understanding of the true cost of assets (for example, initial
cost, financial value, cost to maintain).
• Monitor asset and location conditions to enable proactive rather than reactive maintenance
that helps reduce unplanned downtime.
Work management
Manage both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, from initial work requests and work
order generation through completion and recording of actuals. Work planners can match job
tasks to available resources, estimate and obtain approval of costs, establish priorities, and
initiate maintenance activities across the enterprise.
• Tracking tools enable more detailed analysis of resources, inventory, and equipment use and
costs, helping decrease labor and material costs.
• Multiple assets, locations, and configuration items are allowed per work order or ticket. Work
management also supports work order tracking, task sequencing, attaching documents at the
task level, and generating work orders from asset information.
• A graphical assignment manager helps optimize maintenance schedules and labor use by
assigning the right person with the right skills to the right job.
• Preventive maintenance functionality allows you to put project management schedules in
place with the right job steps and resource requirements, facilitating the planning as well as
the work, to help reduce unplanned downtime and reactive maintenance.
Service management
Service management lets end users submit new service requests, as well as track and update
open service requests. Apply additional service management best practices through IBM Tivoli
Service Desk and further align asset management priorities with overall business objectives. By
infusing comprehensive service level management into the asset management practice asset
management practice, you can:
• Define service offerings to help improve organizational communication and verify that the
services provided are those required to support the business.
• Establish service level agreements (SLAs) to help increase communication between your
organization and the business units, and help align service levels with business objectives.
• More proactively monitor service level delivery against metrics to help avoid missing service
level commitments.
• Implement escalation procedures to better manage the resources that support service level
commitments.
Contract management
Have enhanced control over your vendor contracts with this integrated contract management
system. Contract management provides comprehensive contract management support for
purchase, lease, rental, warranty, labor rate, software, master, blanket, and user-defined
contracts.
• Contract correlation links SLAs to vendor contracts, helping identify unreliable vendors as well
as low quality products. It also enables you to reference SLA performance metrics when
renegotiating vendor terms.
• A terms and conditions library allows you to more consistently apply standardized policies
across the organization.
• Automatic notifications and alerts help you meet vendor terms, avoid penalties, and get more
value out of every contract.
Inventory management
Know the details of what, when, where, how many, how valuable is the asset-related inventory
and its usage. Inventory management functionality records material movements and
adjustments, allowing for real-time inventory tracking, reporting, and auditing. This module also
allows embedded images of an asset to be displayed in the catalog search.
• Track inventory transactions to help streamline parts and materials management.

• Help decrease costs by eliminating excess or obsolete inventory.
• Help optimize and plan inventory to more accurately meet maintenance demand, making the
right parts available at the right location when needed. As a result, you can help reduce
stock-outs, inventory shrinkage, and carrying costs, as well as help foster economies of scale
through shared resources.
Procurement management
Support the phases of enterprise-wide procurement, including direct purchasing and inventory
replenishment. You can provide buyers with more extensive requisition, quotation, vendor,
purchase order, and contract capabilities, thereby allowing them to plan work more proactively.
Maximo Asset Management products easily integrate with enterprise business systems from
vendors such as Oracle and SAP, and also connect to online marketplaces, supplier systems,
and exchanges.
• Vendor management and vendor performance analysis tools can help reduce costly
off-contract buying, and help verify the reliability of vendors and the quality of inventory and
services.
• Automated interval-based, meter-based, or event-driven purchasing capabilities help you
order the right parts and services at the right time, which can improve the overall purchasing
efficiency.
• Global purchasing support can enable group purchasing savings and efficiencies, and can
help lower costs.
• Analysis tools and key performance indicators (KPIs) measure procurement performance such
as order processing times, invoice accuracy, and order delivery times.
Designed to help meet your unique needs

Maximo Asset Management V6.2.1 is packaged in an enhanced SOA that helps simplify the
creation of Web services and supports additional Web service standards such as WS-Security.
Built on a Java™ platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) component-based Internet architecture,
Maximo Asset Management products fit in most modern enterprise technology infrastructures
and integrates easily with your business systems. Maximo Asset Management products make it
easier to tailor the software to your needs without programming, by offering a significant focus on
configuration tooling, such as Application Designer for modifying the user interface and
Database Configuration for adding new tables and columns. Furthermore, your configurations
are upgraded with the upgrade utility, thus keeping you from being locked in from one application
release to another.

• Maximo Change and Corrective Action Manager

– Enable fully integrated, comprehensive change and release management for your assets,
and gain new capabilities for taking corrective action. Policy administration, process
management, and planning capabilities can help increase the speed, efficiency, and
consistency of change implementations while helping you manage monitor, prioritize, and
document your efforts to assess and minimize business risk. Advanced release
management capabilities enable you to define the tasks, schedules, and resources required
to release authorized versions and asset configurations into the production environment.
• Maximo Mobile Inventory Manager and Maximo Mobile Work Manager

– Remotely access Maximo Asset Management data while online or offline. With mobile
Maximo applications, mobile workers can complete more planned work, minimize
nonproductive activities, and reduce paperwork and data entry. In addition, having
immediate data access on-site can lead to higher first-time fix rates. Mobile applications
support remote-asset, workforce, and inventory management needs.
• Maximo Asset Navigator
• Maximo Adapter for Microsoft Project

– Implement bidirectional connectivity between Maximo Asset Management and Microsoft
Project to deliver comprehensive access to work and resource data from IBM Tivoli Maximo
Asset Management for anyone who uses Microsoft Project for scheduling and planning.
You can view, plan, and optimize Maximo Asset Management work and resources together
with Microsoft Project schedules, so you can manage complex, enterprise-wide projects.
The adapter automatically updates work, resources, and schedules in IBM Tivoli Maximo
Asset Management.
• Maximo Calibration
– More effectively manage the calibration of your test and measurement tools, assets, and
instrumentation. Maximo Calibration delivers comprehensive policy documentation, data
validation, traceability, and reverse traceability for calibrated assets, as well as the
standards that are used to calibrate them.
• Maximo Asset Configuration Manager

– This advanced solution supports complex asset management in highly regulated
environments such as aviation, defense, nuclear, and rail industries. Its active configuration
repository tracks and maintains current and historical configurations of assets and their
components. You can manage and maintain more accurate asset configuration states,
component life accounting, and equipment operational status.
• Maximo Enterprise Adapters

– Integrate Maximo Asset Management with Oracle, SAP, and other enterprise systems for a
more holistic view of your asset information. Maximo Enterprise Adapters help simplify and
speed deployment and support of ongoing, real-time data exchange between systems. A
library of predefined integrations supports the integration scenarios typically found between
IBM Tivoli Maximo Asset Management and enterprise business systems, while
platform-level services definition and provisioning using Web services can help you achieve
a true SOA-based enterprise collaboration.
• Maximo e-Commerce Adapter

– Facilitate e-commerce between Maximo Asset Management and supplier systems and
electronic marketplaces. A comprehensive e-commerce infrastructure allows buyers to
browse multiple supplier catalogs, place orders on multiple marketplaces or directly with
suppliers, check order status, and process supplier invoices electronically. Real-time
product information, availability, and pricing can help improve accuracy and planning.
• Maximo Online Commerce System

– This Internet-based supply chain management solution lets you collaborate with suppliers,
partners, and other electronic marketplaces. Powerful catalog search capabilities and
real-time electronic updates with suppliers can help streamline and optimize the parts and
services procurement process. Comprehensive supplier enablement capabilities allow your
suppliers to more easily participate in your electronic supply chain network.
• Maximo for Service Providers

– Maximo Service Provider meets the needs of clients who are managing assets and services
for their customers as a business, or clients who are managing assets and services within
an enterprise and bills internally for these services. Maximo Service Provider supports the
business model of an outsourcer who manages the assets of their customers (customers
may be external, or they may be divisions within an enterprise) and provides maintenance
services for those assets. Maximo Service Provider allows the service provider to manage
customer agreements. These agreements specify the services that the service provider
provides to each customer and the prices charged for managing these assets, and for the
individual maintenance activities performed for the customer. As maintenance activities are
recorded, prices are calculated based on the pricing rules of the customer agreement. At
the end of the billing period, all of the billing transactions are collected including those that
were calculated for discrete maintenance activities, as well as those charges for asset
management based on the number and type of assets under management or the usage of
assets, and any retainer fees, and miscellaneous fees and placed in a batch for review.
Individual transactions may be adjusted at this point. At the completion of the review
process, the transactions are included in the service provider's accounting system.
• Maximo Field Control

– Maximo Field Control combines the capabilities of Maximo Dynamic Value List, Field
Security, and Data Flow Control into a single utility that complements the extensive
configuration capabilities of Maximo. Use Maximo Field Control to avoid the need for
custom programming of additional business rules by using screen-based configuration tools
that will simplify implementation. Maximo Field Control also complements the Domain
functionality available in Maximo by further simplifying the configuration of custom look ups.
In summary, Maximo Field Control will reduce implementation cost and complexity by
avoiding the need for specialist programming skills and facilitate future upgrades.
• Maximo Spatial Asset Management

– Maximo Spatial Asset Management unifies the full functionality of industry-leading GIS, and
asset and service management products in a thoroughly modern architecture based on
Java, XML, and Web services. With access to the full feature set of the industry-leading
ESRI ArcGIS Server, its capabilities go far beyond the generation of static maps that typify
traditional GIS and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) integrations.
For example, Maximo Spatial Asset Management supports queries such as:
-- Show me the locations of any units within one mile of this failed unit's location that
have not yet been inspected this year.
-- Show me the units most likely to be affected in the event of a flood in this area.
• Maximo SLA Manager

– Maximo SLA Manager helps define service level agreements, implement escalation
procedures, and monitor service level delivery. Accordingly, the SLA Manager solution uses
service level agreements and performance monitoring to align goals and priorities to best
demonstrate value and to support overall business objectives. Functionality includes flexible
SLA definition with the capability to create simple or multitiered SLAs and includes
pre-defined commitment types and the ability to customize commitment types. The multiple
escalation points allow you to assign escalations to all commitment types in order to head
off potential service breaches before they occur, and enable you to define when an
escalation is launched, to whom alerts should be sent, and how. Additionally, the real-time
graphical visualization of Key Performance Indicators and SLA performance provides a
clear picture of current service status and enables meaningful communication between IT
and the business. SLA Manager also supports Information Technology Infrastructure
Library (ITIL) framework to tie SLAs to ITIL processes enabling tight management of
configurations, changes, releases, problems, and incidents.

IBM Maximo Asset Management uses an n-tier architecture, which lets you deploy Maximo
across one or more tiers. You can run Maximo on a single physical server or across multiple
servers depending on the number of concurrent users. Maximo requires workstations and
servers in each tier of a Maximo system configuration to have the following minimum hardware
and software.
Client workstation: The workstation where you work and access Maximo applications.

IBM Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing terminology definitions
Add-on authorized user
The addition of an authorized user to an existing and entitled authorized user of another Maximo
Industry Solution product. The number of add-on authorized users may not exceed the number
of authorized users of the other Maximo Industry Solution product.
Authorized user
An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your
enterprise. A Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be obtained for each individual user accessing the
program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a
single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been
obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a
multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.
Note: Authorized users have unique specific identity and IDs cannot be shared. An ID can
establish one or more connections and count as a single authorized user.
Asset
Any tangible or intangible resource or item of value to be managed separately, including
production equipment, facilities, transportation, and IT hardware and software.
Concurrent user
A concurrent user is one and only one individual within the customer's enterprise. The number of
PoEs required is for the highest number of users simultaneously accessing the program or any
program components either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or
application server) through any means on behalf of the user.
Install
An install is a copy or instance of the program in the enterprise.
Limited use authorized user for IBM Maximo for Asset Management: Is similar to an
authorized user but restricted to only three of the following modules: asset, contracts, finance,
inventory, planning, preventative maintenance, purchasing, report, resource, safety, self-serve,
work orders.
Limited use authorized user for IBM Maximo for Service Providers: Is limited to the Bill
Review module only.
Standby or backup systems
For programs running or resident on backup machines, IBM defines three types of situations:
cold, warm and hot. In cold and warm situations, a separate entitlement for the copy on the
backup machine is normally not required and typically no additional charge applies. In a hot
backup situation, the customer needs to acquire other license or entitlements sufficient for that
server. All programs running in backup mode must be solely under the customer's control, even
if running at another enterprise's location.
As a practice, the following are definitions and allowable actions concerning the copy of the
program used for backup purposes.
Cold: A copy of the program may reside, for backup purposes, on a machine as long as the
program is not started. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Warm: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine and is started, but
is idling, and is not doing any work of any kind. There is no additional charge for this copy.
Hot: A copy of the program may reside for backup purposes on a machine, is started, and is
doing work. The customer must acquire a license or entitlements for this copy and there will
generally be an additional charge.
Doing work includes, for example, production, development, program maintenance, and testing.
It also could include other activities such as mirroring of transactions, updating of files,
synchronization of programs, data or other resources (for example, active linking with another
machine, program, database or other resource, and so on), or any activity or configurations that
would allow an active hot switch or other synchronized switch over between programs,
databases, or other resources to occur.
In the case of a program or system configuration that is designed to support a high availability
environment by using various techniques (for example, duplexing, mirroring of files, or
transactions, maintaining a heartbeat, active linking with another machine, program, database, or
other resource), the program is considered to be doing work in the hot situation and a license or
entitlement must be purchased.
Trade-up authorized user
The addition of a authorized user to an existing and entitled authorized user of the IBM Maximo
Asset Management product.
Trade-up limited use authorized user
The addition of a limited use authorized user to an existing and entitled limited use authorized
user of the IBM Maximo Asset Management product.

Passport Advantage
Through the Passport Advantage Agreement, you may receive discounted pricing based on their
total volume of eligible products, across all IBM brands, acquired worldwide. The volume is
measured by determining the total Passport Advantage points value of the applicable
acquisitions. Passport Advantage points are only used for calculating the Entitled Passport
Advantage discount.
To determine the required IBM Tivoli product configuration under Passport Advantage, the IBM
Tivoli Enhanced Value-Based Pricing Model applies. The customer's environment is evaluated
on a per-product basis.
Use the following two-step process to determine the total Passport Advantage points value:
1. Analyze your environment to determine the number of charge units for a product. The quantity
of each product's part numbers to be ordered is determine by that analysis.
2. Order the Passport Advantage part numbers. A Passport Advantage point value, which is the
same worldwide for a specific part number regardless of where the order is placed, is
assigned to each IBM Tivoli product part number. The Passport Advantage point value for the
applicable part number, multiplied by the quantity for that part number, will determine the
Passport Advantage points for that IBM Tivoli product part number. The sum of these
Passport Advantage points determines the Passport Advantage point value of the applicable
IBM Tivoli product authorizations which then may be aggregated with the point value of other
applicable Passport Advantage product acquisitions to determine the total Passport
Advantage points value.
The discounted pricing available through Passport Advantage is expressed in the form of
Suggested Volume Prices (SVPs), which vary depending on the SVP level. Each SVP level is
assigned a minimum total Passport Advantage point value, which must be achieved, in order to
qualify for that SVP level.
Media packs and documentation packs do not carry Passport Advantage points and are not
eligible for SVP discounting.

• License and Software Maintenance 12 Months — This is the product authorization with
maintenance to the first anniversary date.
• Annual Software Maintenance Renewal — This is the maintenance renewal for one
anniversary that applies when a customer renews their existing coverage period prior to the
anniversary date at which it expires.
• Software Maintenance Reinstatement 12 months — This is for customers who have allowed
their Software Maintenance to expire, and later wish to reinstate their Software Maintenance.
• Media packs — These are the physical media, such as CD-ROMs, that deliver the product's
code.
• Documentation packs — These contain printed documentation such as the User's Guide and
Release Notes.

required. Entitlement requirements are Value Unit based, with the exception of IBM Tivoli

Value Unit: A Value Unit is a pricing charge metric for program license entitlements which is
based upon the quantity of a specific designated measurement used for a given program. Each
program has a designated measurement. The most commonly used designated measurement is
a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such
as users or resources which may include servers, client devices, and messages. The number of
Value Unit entitlements required for a program depends on how the program is deployed in your
environment and must be obtained from a Value Unit table. You must obtain a PoE for the
calculated number of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit
entitlements are specific to a program and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated
with Value Unit entitlements of another program.

Ordering information for Passport Advantage
Passport Advantage allows you to have a common anniversary date for Software Maintenance
renewals, which can simplify management and budgeting for eligible new versions and releases
(and related technical support) for your covered products. The anniversary date, established at
the start of your Passport Advantage Agreement, will remain unchanged while your Passport
Advantage Agreement remains in effect. New software purchases will initially include twelve full
months of maintenance coverage. Maintenance in the second year (the first year of renewal) can
be prorated to be coterminous with your common anniversary date. Thereafter, all Software
Maintenance will renew at the common anniversary date and include twelve full months of
maintenance.
Refer to the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement and to the IBM Software
Maintenance Handbook for specific terms relating to, and a more complete description of,
technical support provided through Software Maintenance.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes
only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the
applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM
International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of
Software Maintenance.
This product is only available via Passport Advantage. It is not available as shrinkwrap.
Licensing: IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information
document and PoE govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.
Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license
only and do not include Software Maintenance.
This software license includes Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software
Subscription and Technical Support.
License Information form number: All IBM Maximo Asset Management V6.x products, except
IBM Maximo Service Providers, need to use licensed information document number
L-JDET-7CLJ8U.
Maximo for Service Providers V6.1 needs to use license information document number
L-KWRT-7CSTCU or L-KWRT-7D24BM for the Internal Service Providers component of the
product.

Limited warranty applies: Yes
Limited warranty: IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating
environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified
portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the
program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained
from the use of the program.
IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program
defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further
information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at
http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/handbook.html
IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the
program (warranty period).
Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a
minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance
is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic
means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and
operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to
updates, releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, via announcement letter, of
discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from
IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM
representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.
Money-back guarantee: If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the
original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your
invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you
downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions
on how to obtain the refund.
For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport
Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for
programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software
offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and
in use by you.
Authorization for use on home/portable computer: You may not copy and use this program
on another computer without paying additional license fees.

and Technical Support are provided by the Software Maintenance offering as described in the
Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software and
Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations,
worldwide.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with each program license acquired. The initial
period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if
available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short
duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides
assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems
(IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours)
of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides
Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, consult your IBM

Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of
applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures
caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.
