the establishment’s chagrin. Te IFA teamo candidates is also unique because ratherthan just complain about increased taxes, overspending, and obtrusive governmentactivities, they have articulated “12Steps to Fiscal Sobriety, ransparency,& Accountability.” Tese include Web-casting public meetings, more accessibledocumentation online, zero-basedbudgeting, real-time posting o expensesand bidding documents, and the additionpublic with business to the agendas. Moredetails can be ound at ScottCountyIFA.com.Te level o engagement by supervisorsin the past has been so dismally weak that xing county government may beas simple as having people willing to ask tough questions, investigate urther, andseek alternatives to avoiding scrutiny, surrendering authority, and growinggovernment at any cost. One o the big wake-up calls thatprompted IFA to orm was the supervisors’creation o a new intergovernmentalagreement and taxing authority calledSECC911 (Scott County Emergency Communication Center). an we all nally agree that bothmajor political parties are irrelevantand are in act two brancheso the same ruling party? Both haveexponentially grown an inecient andcorrupt government via unsustainableincreases in spending, including both socialand corporate welare, debt, and taxation. In retrospect, the dierences in how eachparty governs couldn’t ll a coee can.Which means Americans can thank themainstream media or perpetuating themyths that there are meaningul dierencesbetween Democrats and Republicans whenthere are virtually none; that a politicalchallenge between the two is the only thingat stake; and that by supporting and votingone party over the other on election day,Americans are participating to create somedesired change or the better. It is an illusion. Americans have allowedthemselves to be utterly manipulated by themedia, which answers to the politicians, the largest inrastructure (ood, energy, communications, medical, nance, andinsurance) monopolies’ executives/owners,and the party leadership, all o whomcontrol most o the purse, and the laws thatprotect that purse. It is a simple ormula – almost a law o nature – and has been operating since thebeginning o civilization. What is curiousis Americans’ resolute denial that thisormula could possibly apply to them, thatwe are somehow immune to this powerstruggle that aicts mankind – the need todominate one another at any cost. For years, I thought the First, Second, and Tird Estates reerred to the Executive,Legislative, and Judicial branches o government, with the media as the FourthEstate and nal check on the other threeestates because it represented the watchdogor the people. I was wrong. In the beginning, the First Estate was thechurch, the Second was the monarchy, andthe Tird was everyone else. It was not untilmodern times that the First Estate becamethe government, the Second reerred toindustry leaders, and the Tird was stilleveryone else. Te Fourth Estate, the media,is now owned by the First and SecondEstates, leaving it ar aeld rom its originalmission as the people’s watchdog. In essence, the First and Second Estatesmake all the rules and have most o themoney and, thereore, most o the controlover the Tird Estate, which, sadly, nancesthe activities o the other two – via eithercoercion by taxation or blind consumerism. It is a most inequitable relationship, andone that America’s ounders gave their livesand ortunes to change.Iowa gubernatorial candidate JonNarcisse said it perectly during a recentradio interview: “Why should a man bepunished or improving his own property with increased taxes? I he puts a newdeck on his home, instead o the reedomto improve his property, which hopeully causes the value o his property toincrease, and likely that o his neighbors,he is instead immediately assessed or theimprovement and made to pay highertaxes rom that point orward, regardless o whether market values increase or not.”Tankully, Iowans, in Scott County at least, have some superb alternatives tothe one-party/two-branch candidates andcan actually participate in providing realsolutions to the decline o our governmentinstitutions, repairing the First Estate in theprocess.Iowans or Accountability (IFA) havethree serious candidates running orScott County Supervisor: John Riley,John Green, and Jesse Anderson. Te IFAeort is historic in that it is the rst timein Scott County that a Non Party PoliticalOrganization has been ormed, much to
