Installing Oracle 9i
Uninstall Previous Versions of Oracle – A MUST 
1.If a previous version of Oracle is installed, click 
Start
– 
Programs
,
Oracle
 X 
,
OracleInstaller
. Depending on what version of Oracle you have installed, you will either click a link to
 Installed Products
or the
 Products Installed 
page will display. Removeall installed products.
Note
: sometimes Oracle is running and all the products cannot be removed. If possible, manually delete the Oracle folder under C:\Oracle or C:\Orant. You may not be able to delete some of the .dll files.2.For older versions of Oracle, please delete the registry entry. Click 
Start-Run,
type
regedit
and press
enter 
. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software,Oracle
and delete the Oracle folder.3.Next, delete the temp files.
C:\Documents and Settings\User’s VUNetID\LocalSettings\temp
. There will be some Oracle installation files in the temp directory iyou have tried to previously install Oracle. Please remove all these files. (Note: If you cannot see the Local Settings folder, click 
Tools-Folder Options-View
andchange the view to display all folders and files.
 
Notes
: Oracle does not display in Add/Remove Programs. Oracle is backwardscompatible. Installer must have administrative rights on the box.
INSTALL EXACTLY AS INSTRUCTIONS STATE…MAKE NO CHANGES ONYOUR OWN…IT WILL NOT WORK IF YOU DO
Installing Oracle Runtime
Note:
if you previously mapped to\\viaprod\psoft, that mapping will still work,however, mapping directly to\\celerra1\psoftwill result in a quicker connection.
Note: If you donotlog into the Vanderbilt domain, you must map accordingto the following:

92tns.cmdNOTE: This .cmd file copies two files to C:\oracle\ora92\network\ADMIN. If youare not installing Oracle on the C drive, you will need to manually copy these twofiles to?:\oracle\ora92\network\ADMIN(where ? is the drive your installing on).The files are located in P:\oracle9i. They are tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora.
