1999, Jacquiwas driving home from a birthday party along a darkroad on the outskirts of Texas. She was in the car with three friends. Reggie Stephey, (18), was cominghome from drinking beer with his mates. Because ofhis intoxication, he swerved in the middle of astraight road for no known reason. However, whileswerving, his S
UV slammed into the girls’Oldsmobile. Two of Jacqui’s friends were killed, she
and another were rescued. 60% of her body had beenburned, she lost her hair, her ears and her nose. Shehas had more than 50 operations, and is still hasmany more to come.Reggie Stephey was an ordinary guy. He had never been in serious trouble before. However one sillymistake led to something fatal. In 2001 Mr Stepheywas charged with two counts of intoxicationmanslaughter and was sentenced to seven yearsinprisonment. His famous words at
the crash were;

DRINK DRIVING IS VERY, VERYDANGEROUS. SO WHENEVER YOUDRINK ALCOHOL AND NEED TODRIVE HOME, ALWAYS MAKE SURETHAT YOU ARE UNDER THE LIMITOR HAVE A SOBER FRIEND TODRIVE YOU HOME.HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON HOW TODRIVE BETTER, AVOID DRINKDRIVING AND THE HORRENDOUSAFTERMATH.
 
Here are some basic rules:
 
Stop at a red light
 
Go at a green light
 
Slow down at an orange light
 
Go exactly or below the speed limit.And some tips to avoid drink driving:
 
Don’t drink before you drive.
 
 
Only drink one glass of alcohol an hour and accompanyit with a glass of water
 
If you know you are going to be drinking, make sure youhave a lift home with a friend who
hasn’ 
been drinking.
 
NEVER get in a car with a drunk driver.More general tips:
 
Be aware of pedestrians at all times.
 
Don’t take risks while on the road.
 
 
ALWAYS wear a seatbelt
 
Make sure all passengers in the carare wearing seatbelts.
 
Slow down in school zones
 
Pay attention to road signs.
