Responsibilities:
Administering of all manuscript submissions; handling of manuscript and other author-related
enquiries; managing freelance payments; assessment of manuscripts; guidance of up-and-coming
new writers (both fiction and non-fiction); building and maintaining good relationships with
authors, freelancers and colleagues at Kwela/NB Publishers; and assisting the publisher and
editors of Kwela Books in meeting the set financial goals.
Requirements:
The successful candidate:
• has a B degree and/or publishing or other relevant qualification
• has a passion for books, particularly South African fiction and non-fiction
• is fluent in English (and preferably also Afrikaans)
• is energetic, creative, innovative and enthusiastic – with a strong visual sense, and a solid
understanding of the South African book market, specifically Kwela Books
• has excellent organisational abilities and can keep to deadlines
• is a team player
• can work independently and is flexible
• is computer literate (MS Office)
• reads widely across different media

Administrasie van manuskripte vir keuring; die hantering van alle manuskrip- en skrywersnavrae;
administrasie rondom vryskutbetalings; keuring van manuskripte (en veral begeleiding van nuwe,
ontluikende skrywers van fiksie én nie-fiksie); die kweek en handhaaf van goeie verhoudinge met
skrywers, medewerkers, en kollegas by Kwela/NB-Uitgewers; en bowenal ondersteuning aan die
uitgewer en redakteurs om gestelde finansiële teikens te haal.
Vereistes:
Die suksesvolle kandidaat:
• Het ’n B-graad en/of uitgewers- of ander tersaaklike kwalifikasie
• Het ’n intense belangstelling in die Suid-Afrikaanse boekbedryf (fiksie en nie-fiksie)
• Is vlot in Engels (en verkieslik ook in Afrikaans)
• Is energiek, skeppend, innoverend en entoesiasties – met ’n sterk visuele aanvoeling, en goeie
insig in die Suid-Afrikaanse boekewêreld, en veral Kwela Boeke
• Het uitstekende organisatoriese vermoëns en haal spertye
• Is ’n spanspeler
• Kan onafhanklik en innoverend werk
• Is rekenaargeletterd (MS Office)
• Is op ’n daaglikse basis blootgestel aan ’n verskeidenheid media
