So, I just read a headline from Friday talking about how Obama on Thursday reemphasized his commitment to blocking all off-shore drilling. Then Friday he’s suddenly for it? I see others have posted on this, but how on earth do you account for this kid of shift literally overnight? This is unfortunately just one more example of his lack of leadership in anything to do with the environment. The only thing he ever mentions is “green jobs.” But maybe this will be “sustainable” off-shore drilling? Maybe he can follow up his world tour with a sustainability tour.
Would the answers get 10 points in polls?
Question one:
If Bush had addressed the offshore oil drilling question 5 years ago, would we be in the mess we are in?
Question 2:
If we delay drilling for another 5 years, will we fix the problem?
These questions and answers should be worth at least 10 polling points and maybe the election.
Thanks for all the responses...you guys rock. We need to make our voices heard. We need to push back and make him retract his decision somehow. People need to ask questions, and get specific answers, otherwise, the rhetoric will be like a beautiful crystal glass with nothing in it....
I am EXTREMELY disappointed that Obama is considering offshore drilling. That is nothing but MORE OF THE SAME, giving in to big business. What happened to doing what is best, what is right for the country? What happened to making a change? At this point, I see no difference between the two candidates. It is disgusting. We really have no choice, vote for candidate A or Candidate A - they are both doing, saying the same thing. "Making a Change" must have been just to get the nomination.
I, too, am very concerned with a "compromise" which considers offshore drilling. This thought process continues to keep us addicted to oil and consequently continues to destroy the environment. This is not a compromise, but instead continues to feed oil companies and ultimately enable us to destroy the planet.
Your tectonic shift on offshore oil drilling is a huge problem. Please do your research on the 1969 California massive oil spill. I'm sure that's why you've left us off your list of potential giveaways. It's why there's been a moratorium, accepted by both conservative and liberal, since then. The beach is everyone's.
Why haven't you mentioned that any oil gained from offshore drilling won't be used for at least 10 years, and that there's no refining capacity to handle it? Why haven't you mentioned that by the time 10 years roll around, we won't NEED it, because we'll be using alternative sources of energy???
Also, you haven't come out specifically for or against nuclear power. State your position, both on new nuclear power plants, and on decommissioning old ones.
My vote (and I vote in every election), and many like it, awaits.
