issue even as it must continue to do so regarding racism and segregation.
New churches can more easily adapt and effect these changes in a locale.

Nashville is currently a booming metropolis. Named and recognized as the new "It City" by several
leading publications and news outlets, including Rolling Stone Magazine, Nashville's population
continues to explode, as does its popularity and influence, at staggering rates.
According to 2016 data, the population of Nashville at that time was 660,393 with 51.9% females and
48.1% males and a median age of 34.0. The median income was $54,310 (up from $39,232 in 2000)
and the per capita income was $31,842 (up from $22,018 in 2000). As per the 2010 US Religion
Census, Davidson County had 782 churches/congregations at that time.
Nashville has become a national sports hub, housing the NFL's Tennessee Titans, the Nashville Predators
of the NHL, the AAA-Minor League Baseball team the Nashville Sounds, an upcoming Major League
Soccer team, and just announced to be the location of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Nashville is the address for many leading universities, including world-renowned Vanderbilt University.
The Nashville Metro area (which includes all of Davidson County as well as the Brentwood/Franklin area
of Williamson County in many statistical studies) is also the home of many leading industrial giants
including Nissan of North America, Bridgestone, Dollar General, HCA, and a host of others - not the least
of which include scores from Nashville's immense music and entertainment industry leaders. 13
For the sake of our study, we are focusing on a five-mile
radius of 210 Louise Ave in Nashville, zip 37203 - which
is the location of Cafe' Coco, a very popular coffeehouse
and meeting/music venue in the heart of Nashville,
within walking distance of Vanderbilt's Peabody
campus, Nashville's Centennial Park - home of the
Parthenon, and several area hospitals. As the map
shows, this radius encompasses all of downtown, Green
Hills, Belle Meade, and most of East Nashville, North
Nashville, and South Nashville, and part of Bellevue.

As you can see, the data shows that
the predominate age group is
"Young Adults" age 25-34, with 35-
44 and 45-54 age groups coming in
respectively at 2nd and 3rd in our
study area. It also plainly shows
that Singles who have never been
married make up almost 50% of the
area's population - with single
person households making up just
over 40%. For a church to make an
effective impact in this area there
should be no doubt that it MUST be
focused on Unmarried Young Adults!

The mission of EMERGE is encapsulated
in our name, our logo, and our emblem - We are A
Spiritual Refuge and an Evolving Ministry Expressing
Radical Grace Every day.
Our purpose is to be a growing ministry reaching out
with love to all people; restoring those who are hurt,
wounded, weary, or have fallen; revealing Christ and
God's Kingdom within each heart so they may evolve
spiritually; and to provide a safe space for people to
engage their questions, examine the message of the
scriptures, establish their faith, express their worship,
and experience God's radical and unconditional Love,
Grace, Acceptance, and Healing so that we may each
step out from behind the shadows of problems and
circumstances and emerge as pure gold!

We see Jesus as the Pattern Son.

Our vision for EMERGE is for it to be
a present-day embodiment of the life of Christ
which will transform our world.
As we each progressively express the nature, character, and power of
God in our daily lives, and work together as a family of faith to reach out
especially to the young adults around us, restore them, and help reveal
Christ in them - we shall emerge as a transformative catalyst to our
region and the world and shall manifest the Kingdom of God "in earth as
it is in heaven" through our daily walk, our teaching, and our outreach.

PRACTICLE PRINCIPLES
That Matter
The things we value in life help define us.
As we hold firm to those principles, they
will help mark our path and guide our
decisions. Even if we, as people, fall
short and stray momentarily, our true
values will help lead us back to the path.
As a spiritual refuge and community of faith,
EMERGE has these eight core values:
Love - God's very nature is Love. We are each loved with an unfailing,
unconditional, compassionate love. Our commitment is to share that
same selfless sacrificial love with others, symbolized by the cross.
Grace - There may be nothing as radical and far-reaching as the Grace
of God. To define it as "unmerited favor" is to over-simplify the complete
and total acceptance of everyone by God. By the divine influence in our
hearts and lives, we seek to express this same grace to the world.
Worship - We express our love and gratitude to God through our
worship. Our worship should be intense and freely expressed. Worship
is also much more than a once-a-week activity - it's a lifestyle of selfless
sacrificial love and service to God and others.
Relationships - The basis for family and community is relationship. Our
relationships with God and one another are central to all that we do. Our
relationship with God is best expressed through relationships with people-
authentic relationships which are other-focused rather than self-focused. 19

PRACTICLE PRINCIPLES
Inclusion - God's radical and unconditional love, grace, and acceptance
includes everyone and excludes no one! We dare to hold to God's own
standard. We embrace all as the children and divine expressions of God.
Outreach - "Loving our neighbors as ourselves" is not a hollow platitude - it
is intended to be a way of life. We will continually seek new and practical
ways to improve the lives of those in our region and the world.
Being Spirit-Led - Spirit is always at work in, through, and around us. We
intend to always be conscious and aware of that activity and allow the Christ
within us to direct how we are to participate and partner with God in that work.
Spiritual Evolution - The outer manifestation of the inner reality of our
relationship as sons and daughters of God and the formation of the
perfected and mature Christ within each of us is a process of spiritual growth
dependent upon the grace of God and our willingness to allow our soul
(mind, will, emotions) to be saved and constantly transformed. This spiritual
evolution is the ultimate purpose for our passion and ministry.

•God is Eternal Spirit, both Imminent and Transcendent, the Almighty I AM,
Omniscient (All Knowledge), Omnipotent (All Power), and Omnipresent (All
Presence), the One True Self, the First Cause, the Infinite Source from which, of
which, in which, for which all things/beings (seen or unseen) exist/consist/subsist.

•God is Absolute Goodness and is always being made known unto us as All-
Consuming/Unquenchable/Glorious LIGHT, Eternal/Everlasting/Abundant LIFE, and
Endless/Perfect/Unfailing LOVE.
•God has been revealed by prophets “in many parts, in many ways”

and by many names to our ancestors and throughout the ages worldwide in and
through many and various scriptures and teachings – particularly through the Bible
and other ancient esoteric writings and teachings such as those of Kabbalah, Sufism,
Buddhism, Vedanta, Native Americans, et al.

•God is One. "The LORD our God, the LORD is One." There is “One God and
Father/Mother of all, who is above all, through all, and in you all...In God we live,
and move, and have our being."
•Humankind is one. There is "one body and one Spirit." The Creator made “of one
blood all nations of humankind." “We being many are one body...as the body is one

and has many members, we're all members one of another.”
•Humanity is the offspring of God. God declared, “You are gods and all of you
are children of the Most High.” We are “now the children of God, though we have
not yet manifested what we shall be” as we spiritually mature into full-grown heirs.
“All of creation is eagerly waiting and longing for the manifestation of the full-grown
heirs of God” - for the Divine Spark of the Light of the Creator within each of us (also
known as the anointing or Holy Spirit or Christ) to break through the shells that
we've allowed to block that Light from transforming us and the world. The
“hope/expectation of manifesting this glory” is “Christ in us/as us”. 22
•Jesus is our example and way-shower. The man Jesus (Yeshua ben Yoseph)
came to “show us the Father” and to “do the works of God which sent” him. We
are told that “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with
power” and was therefore called Christ. Jesus, as the Pattern Son, demonstrated
the life required of a full-grown heir of God as a life “led by the Spirit of God”
and illustrated true Love to us because “he laid his life down for us.” He
thereafter commissioned us to “love one another as I have loved you...Just as the
Father has sent me I also send you.” "As he is so are we in this world.”
•Spiritual growth and development is both evolutionary and necessary.
Spiritual evolvement is the action of spiritually evolving. It is a process of
progressive spiritual growth and change as the seed of the "Kingdom of God within"
each of us takes root and matures "until Christ is fully formed within." Becoming a
full-grown heir of God, which constitutes becoming like God and one with God (not
merely positionally but experientially) is the true purpose of life. So if "God is Love"
then we must also become Love - in each of our personal daily lives "not just in
word, but in deed and in truth." We are told that Jesus “learned obedience and was
made perfect/mature through the things he suffered" i.e. by experience. We fall
down, but we get up, and compassionately help others get up as well.
•The quest of spiritual development begins with repentance: a change in
mind and heart that results in a change in the direction and aim of one's
life. "As a person thinks, so is she." Our lives are the fruition of how and what we
think and believe about God, ourselves, one another, and the world. As Jesus said,
"Be it done to you as you've believed." Metamorphosis occurs in each area of our
lives "by the constant renewing of our mind" and receiving the "mind of Christ." This
repentance is progressive and results in transforming "the desire to receive for
oneself alone" into "the desire to receive for the sake of sharing."

EMERGE is focused on ministering to young adults. We will gather together in surroundings familiar to
young adults, in venues that are welcoming, casual, and comfortable.
Worship gatherings are a time to express our love and gratitude to God. Our gatherings will be a time
of free, intense, intimate worship. The music and songs will be contemporary and passionate.
This will also be an opportunity to invite and lead others on a spiritual journey. For many, this very well
may be their first mindful and deliberate encounter with God - their first time in a worship environment.
We will lead them to the Christ within. And we will all be led to experience the presence of God
together as the five-fold ministry and the gifts of the Spirit are expressed.
We will all be learning together at this time. Even those of us who have been on the spiritual path for
years will be encouraged to approach this time with an open mind and open heart as we encounter
Spirit in a message of present truth, relevant to our lives and the world.
This time will also be used to encourage us all to continue our worship throughout the week through
times of prayer and meditation and also through loving compassionate service to others. 24

How do we get there? How do we make an impact on our region and the world?
We must meet people where they are.
We must accept people as they are.
We must challenge people to be more than they are.
We must respect people for who they really are.
We must recognize that we are all children of one God.
We must see the seed of the Kingdom and Christ within each heart.
We must edify, exhort, and encourage each one towards spiritual growth.
We must help awaken, stimulate, and form the potential leaders within them all.
We cannot just "do church" the way we have always done it!
To make a lasting impact, we will emerge and step out of the past,
utilizing the media, music, and vernacular of the day to reach and
teach the young adults in our region.
Our music and our message must resonate with those whom we
are attempting to reach in order for them to realize the relevance
to their lives and the world.
The venue must reflect an atmosphere conducive to helping those whom
we intend to reach to feel welcome, comfortable, and at home so that
we may all feel free to be ourselves. 25

Charlton Scott Fisher

began preaching at
age 16 and has
served as an
evangelist, senior
pastor, associate
pastor, youth pastor,
praise & worship leader, Charlton
chaplain of a campground/resort, as well as in Scott Fisher
many other areas of ministry - including foreign Lead Planter
and domestic missions. Scott has ministered in Lead Pastor
Haiti, where he lived for a time teaching and 20 yrs in ministry
preaching and serving the needs of the people
there, as well as in various parts of North America.
Scott was approved several years ago as lead
church planter by the Tennessee Baptist
Convention. He attended Rhema Bible College
in Broken Arrow, OK and was a member of the
Alumni Association for several years. Scott also
graduated from SAE Institute of Technology
with a focus on Music Business and Production.
Scott is a former member of the Fellowship of
Tennessee Baptist Evangelists. 26

In addition, we plan to try to work with other churches and ministries in the area to help
create more unity. Plus, we would like to host seminars and conventions for likeminded
churches and ministries. And, we will have summits among churches of differing views to
discuss important issues.

We realize that society tends to look down on people who are in need and have little
to no financial resources of their own with which to maintain a life of stability and
self-sufficiency; subsequently, this mindset and attitude increases feelings of
belittlement, hopelessness, inferiority, reclusiveness, etc. within those who find
themselves in need and financial hardship.
This outreach - in an attitude of Love and compassion - not only seeks to help meet
some of the needs not necessarily met by other organizations and/or government
agencies, but also intends to help restore dignity, self-worth, and hope to those who
may be in a time of financial hardship and need, so that they may hold their heads
high, see beyond their present state, enhance their lives, and become a positive force
within society.
We'll store and distribute items which those we help may not be able to acquire
through other organizations or government agencies but will enhance their lives and
their feelings of self-worth. Things such as: shampoo, hairbrushes, combs, body wash,
hand soap, hair gel, toothpaste & brushes, mouthwash, cotton balls & swabs,

antiperspirant/deodorant, shaving cream & razors, lotion, aftershave, perfume, first-
aid items, denture cleaner & adhesive, contact lens solution, laundry detergent, dryer
sheets, dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, paper towels, feminine hygiene items,
makeup & nail polish, various other personal and household items.
This outreach may develop into it's own non-profit organization but it will still be
administered by our staff.
