Rotary History 
The Great Depressionand World War II both im-peded the Foundation’sgrowth, but the need for last-ing world peace generatedgreat postwar interest in itsdevelopment. After Rotary’sfounder, Paul P. Harris, diedin 1947, contributions beganpouring into Rotary Interna-tional, and the Paul HarrisMemorial Fund was createdto build the Foundation.That year, the first Foun-dation program – the fore-runner of Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships– was established. In 1965-66, three new programs were launched:Group StudyExchange, Awards for Tech-nical Training, and Grantsfor Activities in Keeping withthe Objective of The RotaryFoundation, which was latercalledMatching Grants.TheHealth, Hunger andHumanity (3-H) Grants
pro-gram was launched in 1978,and Rotary Volunteers wascreated as a part of that pro-gram in 1980.PolioPlus wasannounced in 1984-85, andthe next year broughtRotary Grants for University Teach-ers. The first peace forums were held in 1987-88, lead-ing to theFoundation'speace and conflict studiesprograms.

They trickled in, one by one, PP Alfred and PP Joseph Tin ready for his talk on Rotary Foundation.The meeting officially started at8.16 P.M. Rather late, according toour Sergeant at Arms.The President spoke first, askingthe treasurer to look into any out-standing payments still remaining onthe advertisements in our last Instal-lation magazine. He promised to lookinto it.Rtn Albert reported on the up-coming events planned with the Inter-acters. Christmas Cheer and Car Wash for charity are upcomingevents.PP Simon reported on the daytrip. PP Joseph, PP Suchdav, Rtn Albert, PE John and Rtn Shakeelthe AGM on 30th. Yours truly looksforwards to meeting Rotarians he hasnot met so far on that day.Then it was time for the talk onThe Rotary Foundation. PP Joseph’stalk was apt and excellent. It soonbecome a discussion, all the veteransadding to the debate of what theFoundation was all about.PP Peter Yee, who had to missthis meeting, would have been proudof the lively discussion.PE John Ng gave a vote of thanks to PP Joseph on the invigorat-ing and educative talk.The meeting ended at 9.21We adjourned to JB Restaurantfor fellowship.
