1. Fleet Update
Cab air coolingFitting in Class 455s to begin in November 2010 anticipatedcompletion August2011.Class 458New procedure for the nose end doors has been risk assessedwhich is deemed safer and quicker by 20 minutes. It wasconfirmed that the operation of coupling the units will stayat Wimbledon.Class 421 unit no 1497Unit no. 1497 will be leaving South West trains in September.Class 159s
1. Air Con and Radiators
We are changing the defective air handling units andalternators on the fleet, when the back log has been clearedwe will plane to carry out the change in controlled wayexample 1 alternator per period.We are fitting the 159/0 fleet with a new type of radiator and45 have been changed so far out of 66, this is required due tothe old type loosing the capability of cooling due to blockedwater ways within the radiator.
2. Use of Agency Staff
Employee representatives said that they were increasinglyconcerned with the number of agency staff currently being usedand were looking for a commitment from the company to employpermanent staff.John Parsons responded that the current situation had notchanged from that described in Christian Roth’s letter to theRMT he confirmed the number of agency staff currently asfollows:
 2 Location Grade NumberWimbledon CB1 4Guildford RO 4Fratton CB1 8Salisbury CB1 3Bournemouth CB1 2Employee Representatives asked when the use of Agency staffwould cease and John Parsons responded that he could notguarantee this would happen however the matter was kept underregular review with company council representatives when afull update is given.
3. Discipline Cases
Employee Representatives said that they had concerns regardingthe consistency of sanctions applied in discipline cases andasked that details of completed cases be given at agendameetings.Management responded that it was not the intention to supplyinformation on a regular basis but if Employee Representativeshad specific concerns they could raise them and they would beinvestigated.
4. New Radio System in Depots
John Parsons explained that a new radio system in depots willhave the ability to record messages. The only staff havingaccess to recordings will be the Depot Manager and FleetOperations Standards will use for monitoring. Recordings willbe used in case of incidents. Messages will be held on harddisc at Clapham for two years and Bournemouth for four yearsthis is due to the disc size and the amount of use the systemhas.Employee Representatives said that occasional banter was apart of railway lifeand they would not like to see the recordings used fordisciplinary purposes.John Parsons responded that the correct language should beused by everyone using a radio as a safe method of working.Following further discussion it was agreed thata company council representative would receive a demonstrationof the system.
5. Not to be moved boards
John Parsons said that a standard has been in existence forsome time that boards must be used with tags. He confirmedthat re-briefing would be taking place.
6. Train Preparaton Barton Mill
Plans have been made fro train preparation to be carried outat Barton Mill by MB2 grades who will also carry out CETduties.
