Let’s go back to that night. It was approx. 5:30pm Now, I don’t want you all to thinkthat I’m trying make Lewis out to be aand Officer James Knight, of the St. Petersburg saint, who was in the wrong place atthe wrong time. That’s certainly notPolice Dept., pulled over an older model the the case, when talking about TyRon Lewis. TyRon was, in fact, aPontiac for a speeding violation. According criminal and a thug, who’s been inand out of juvenile hall since the ageto the police report, Knight approached the of nine… but under nocircumstances, did he deserve to be shot.vehicle on the driver’s side and ordered the Some will look at this as anisolated incident, but if you look into theDriver, 18 y/o TyRon Lewis, to roll down history history of some of the policeinvolved shooting, you’ll beginthe window. Lewis refused the Officer’s notice a trend…. For example: May2
nd
, 2004. 17 year-old Marquellcommands and slowly started to inch his McCullough McCullough wasambushed by deputies who opened firecar forward. Witnesses and Knight’s own at his pick-up truck 14 times, striking him with nine shots. Afterpartner, Sandra Minor, stated it was at murdering young Marquell in a hailof bullets, deputies said hethat point, in which Officer Knight intentionally wasn't even the person they werelooking for. Though the deputiesput himself in front of Lewis’ car identified and pursued the wrongperson and the wrong vehicle,(I’m assuming to keep him from fleeing the scene). the shooting death of MarquellMcCullough was still ruled "justifiable."Now in my opinion, Knight had to have known Then on April 12, 2005, PinellasCounty Sheriff's deputies arrivedthat by putting himself in front of a moving at the home Jarrell Walker toexecute a search warrant, obtainedvehicle, that there’s one thing bound to happen….. obtained on the suspicion thatdrugs were being sold from the home.… and that’s exactly what did happened.
Con’t on next page…
11 years and almost no changes
continued..
Officer Christopher Taylor fired two shots in Walker's back, who was lying on ground. Taylor claims that Walkerwas reaching for a gun, hidden underneath a couch, which prompted him shoot. Walker was pronounceddead and no gun was ever found under the couch. The shooting was eventually ruled as justifiable. Just like TyRon Lewis, both Marquell McCulloughand Jarrell Walker, were no Angels… but just likeTyRon Lewis, under no circumstances, did theydeserve to die. The above mentioned incidents, as well asseveral others, have led me to believe thatPolice here in Pinellas County have developeda policy that’s become the norm and that is….“if you’re gonna kill or abuse someone for no reason, make sure it’s a black kid with a record, that way no one will give a shit.”-
