    THE LEMMING DEFENSE

    A PARABLE FOR OUR TIMES


    A true Lemming, a Lemming among Lem-
    mings, will tell you “My father was a
    Lemming, my grandfather was a Lem-
    ming … I come from a long line of Lem-
    mings,” for a Lemming is always proud of
    his Lemming heritage.

    I happened upon a Lemming hurrying to catch the crowd as they


    marched over a cliff, to the sea beyond. “Why,” I yelled after him.
    Impatiently, he turned his head and said “It’s simple, that’s just the way it
    is … there’s nothing I can do about it” and scampered on.
