The tradition of flying theflag at half-mast began centuriesago to allow the invisible flag of death to fly on top, signifyingdeath's presence, power, andprominence. The Governor hasissued an executive order(EXECUTIVE ORDER # 317) for theflag of the United States and theflag of the State of Wisconsin tobe at half-staff on Monday, May31, 2010, pursuant to federal law,for Memorial Day. Flags should belowered to half-staff beginning atsunrise Monday and ending at12:00 p.m. on that date. Many of
us either don’t know the correct
procedure or have forgotten it. AsI drove through Lannon and sur-rounding communities, I notedonly
flag displayed properly(a residence on Good Hope Roadnear the center of town). VillageLeaders in Sussex and Pewaukeewere remiss in their duties, aswere all schools, businesses,churches and residences through-out the area. If we are going to
honor those fallen, let’s make the
effort to do it right! It only takes afew minutes
