1 Description 1.1. Application Three-phase SIMOREG K Convertor Units con- sist of a fully controlled bridge configuration with a controller which has circuits to drive the converter in fully controllad bridge configuration. The SIMOREG K thus can be considered to consist of a power section anda control section. ‘The power section consist of converters in which several thyristor modules and their associated auxiliaries are combined mechanically ang electrically. The control section is for thyristor firing angle control, hich allows a smooth variation of the speed throughout the control range, It maintains constant speed at the pre-selected value (set by the user) irrespective of the Toad, temperature or supply voltage variation. 1.2 Construction Main elements of standard SIMOREG K assembly are : (refer fig 1&7) 4.24. Thyristor modules and heatsink ‘Three thyristor modules are mounted onto an ex- truded heatsink, which is also the supporting part. Each ‘thyristor module consists of two Thyristors connected back to back. The metal base of the thyristor modules, which are used to dissipate heat losses are potential- free. Three thyristor modules are configured in BEC ‘connection, 1.2.2 Electronics in power section ‘The electronic module consists of pulse isolation transformers, snubber circuit components, current feed back matching components and field power supply. There are four types of modules depending upon the raling of SIMOREG K assembly. The details regarding selection of this module is tabulated in Table +.5 of section 1.7.1 e.g. for 30A I-Q SIMOREG K, Electronics ‘card is 6QN2001-IPT: a) Pulse transformers ‘The pulses are isolated through pulse transformers before they are applied to thyristors. Pulses from the control system are brought to the electronics card of power section via interface connectors X11, Flat band connectors are used to reduce the wiring. See fig.t b) Snubber circuit components ‘The SIMOREG K assembly also contains snubber circuits which absorb the reverse recovery charges reduce commutation spikes and snub the staep-fronted over voltages from external sources. ©) Field power supply For small de motors, a field power supply of 3 Amp. DC obtained from a diode bridge with maximum 230 volts input, 1 phase ac input with a maximum output of 200V, de, is also avaliable. The field current monitoring Unit is not available as part of SIMOREG K unit. 4) Current feedback Current feedback is obtained through isolated AC current transformers. 1.2.3 Fan assembly ‘SIMOREG K assembly with DC current rating upto 410 amps is naturally cooled, assembly and higher ratings are equipped with forced air cooling system. Cooling fan is part of SIMOREG K and need not be ordered separately. ‘The fan is mounted below the power section. Un- restricted cooling air inlet and outlet must be ensured. Fan motor terminals are brought outon a terminal Block. Protection of fan motor should be done externally 1 A. Fuses (external) Protection of thyristors can be done by external line fuses (see table 1.4), These are not provided alongwith the SIMOREG K unt. Control Section ‘The control section consists of a basic card called COMPCARD for basic functional requirements and one of the supplementary cards, if required, for adcitional functions. The supplementary card can be mounted on the basic control card and connected to it by a flatoand cable. 1.3 Interface between power section and control section fi ‘The Interface is provided in the form of a 26 pin flatband cable connector. The connector has locking ‘arrangement to prevent wrong connection. Below is @ list which gives connection setween Power section and Control section (COMPCARD). Refer fig.1 Pin no. Cable lugs should be Used to attach cables. The cable lugs must have direct contact with the assembly buses without any inter- mediate flat or spring washers. The SIMOREGK must be grounded at the terminal which is marked. The fan ‘motor should be connected to three-phase 415 V AC supply.
