Megan
Mastache
is


honored
for
her
community
service
work
and
received
the
title
of
California’s
AmeriCorps
Member
of


the
Year.
This
award
goes
out
to
an
AmeriCorps
member
who
has
demonstrated
AmeriCorps
values,
has


made
a
significant
contribution
to
their
community,
and
has
committed
to
a
lifetime
of
service.



Mastache
serves
in
the
San
Luis
Obispo
area.
Mastache
has
worked
to
fight
homelessness
and
sexual


assault.
For
the
past
five
years
she
has
contributed
in
the
Food
Share
program,
which
distributes
extra


food
from
restaurants
to
local
homeless
shelters.
She
also
helps
with
the
Developing
Through
Art


program,
which
gives
homeless
children
the
ability
to
communicate
their
feelings
through
art.



On
Thursday,
May
6,
Governor
Schwarzenegger
and
First
Lady
Maria
Shriver
presented
Mastache
with


her
Medal
for
Service.
This
event
celebrated
the
dedication
of
many
individuals
and
organizations
to


service
and
volunteer
work
throughout
California.
There
are
seven
award
categories;
winners
are
chosen


based
on
their
application
and
letters
of
recommendation.
