VolunteerCorps
member,
Megan
Mastache
is
honored for her community service work and received the title of California’s AmeriCorps Member of
the Year. This award goes out to an AmeriCorps member who has demonstrated AmeriCorps values, has
made a significant contribution to their community, and has committed to a lifetime of service.
Mastache serves in the San Luis Obispo area. Mastache has worked to fight homelessness and sexual
assault. For the past five years she has contributed in the Food Share program, which distributes extra
food from restaurants to local homeless shelters. She also helps with the Developing Through Art
program, which gives homeless children the ability to communicate their feelings through art.
On Thursday, May 6, Governor Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver presented Mastache with
her Medal for Service. This event celebrated the dedication of many individuals and organizations to
service and volunteer work throughout California. There are seven award categories; winners are chosen
based on their application and letters of recommendation.
