The MarketPlace MovementEphesians Series:
Pursuing the Supernatural (Pt 1)“The Spirit led the first Christians to do unexplainable things, to live lives that didn’t make senseto the culture around them, and ultimately to spread the story of God’s grace around the world”
Francis Chan
Ephesians 1:7-14
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according tothe riches of his grace, 8which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making knownto us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a planfor the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.11In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purposeof him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12so that we who were thefirst to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.
13In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed withthe promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
The spirit is our guarantor/ co-signer of the promises that God has for our lives
5 Areas that we will cover
Where does the Spirit come from? What does the Spirit do for us?How do we obtain the Spirit? What does the Spirit look like in the lives of believers? How do we use the Spirit in our day to day lives?
It is possible to be saved and still be void of an “active” connection with the SpiritActs 19:1-6
1And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country andcame to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. 2And he said to them, "Did you receive theHoly Spirit when you believed?" And they said, "No,we have not even heard that there is a HolySpirit." 3And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John’s baptism."4And Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe inthe one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus." 5On hearing this, they were baptized in thename of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came onthem, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying.
The spirit has at its principle point love. You can’t operate in love and condemnation at the same time.

The Spirit of God has been around from the start

The Spirit proceeds from the Father John 15:26
26"But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, whoproceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
2 - What does the Spirit do for us? The Spirit brings comfortJohn 16:7
7Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
The Spirit brings order John 16:8
8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
The Spirit imparts the love of GodRomans 5:3-5
3More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4andendurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and hope does not put us toshame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who hasbeen given to us.
The Spirit stewards the will of God for our livesRomans 8:26-27
