Arctic Monkeys- Leave Before The Lights Come On • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEukS2YN9B8 • This is one of Arctic Monkeys song. There is a difference in this song with all other indie music videos as it is all narrative based. • Most indie music videos that we have researched are performance based, but this is narrative based and includes no lip syncing at all. • We thought this would be a great idea for us, as we already had problems with casting finding a character so we decided to not include no lip syncing in our video to make it easier. Arctic Monkeys- Leave Before The Lights Come On • This song is about a lost girl who is attempting suicide half heartedly, so she is not fully sure about it and wants to attract more attention from the people walking beneath her by throwing her shoe of as someone walks by. It shows the girl is wanting some forms of care or love. • Through out the whole video we see no lip syncing at all and is all narrative based. • Even though it has no lip syncing, us the audience still know what the music video is about through the narration bit. • This video has influenced with the making of our video as we thought of making it fully narrative based with no lip syncing but at the same time the audience will still know what it is about. Analysis of video • Genre : alternative indie rock • Lyrics and visuals : there is no match between lyrics and visuals. • Camera shots: there where many different camera shots used, but the main one was close up of the girl or the man, this is to show the facial expression as she is attempting to commit suicide and this is something serious so showing the expression informs the audience feelings of the characters. • Editing: as the camera shot changes to something else, the beat of the music changes as well, e.g. when she holds the guys hands at the top of the building, as soon as her hand touches the guys hand, the beat changes. • Costumes: the costumes used are casual clothing, with a shirt and jeans for the man, and the lady Is wearing a blue top with jeans. • Location: the main location is outside on the streets, and a café.
