The Industry For Hip Hop Artists Who Buy Rap Beats

by Kyle Artzt

Everything has changed when it comes to music creation, promotion and distribution in the last few
years. It's become easy to buy rap beats, record songs and get some serious money made through music
because of new technologies. Not only that, it seems that the industry is actually turning in favor of the
independent movement. Major labels are being left in the dust and artists everywhere are starting to
come up fast.

Many people are under the false impression that the internet has actually ruined music in a way. There
are countless amount of artists in the major industry that are trying their hardest to make sure that
things like cyber pirating are stopped by any means. This is because artists tend to believe that the
declining record sales for major labels is due to the fact that communication has become so easy and
fast with the online community. Songs are being spread virally by fans through email attachments and
file transfers, so there's an illusion created.

If you'd like to read the truth, here it is... Even with cyber pirating hitting the market as hard as it has,
most music experts agree that only about 20% of sales are lost due to pirating or illegal downloading.
That means that a huge 80% of music lovers are still buying music as they come across artists they like.

It's my personal belief that records will always sell, for all of eternity, for as long as there are fans to buy
the music. Why? Well I say this because those who buy music don't buy it just because they want to
listen to it... In fact, in today's industry it's much more likely that they have access to those same songs
for free... The reason they buy is because they want to support the artists which they look up to so
much.

In fact there is a lot to look forward to as a recording artist today. Though the major labels are seeing a
mysterious decline in record sales, I believe I can pinpoint the reasons for that. The major industry is not
changing to work with the digital era. This is why the independent scene is expanding at such a dramatic
rate while the majors are falling off quickly. Major labels are known for spending huge amounts of
money on each one of their artists, falling short on record sales many times and ending up not making
any profit. With the few artists that do profit, the majors continue putting more and more money into
them. The artists that fail to bring in substantial record sales are simply dropped from the label, and the
losses are recovered by their mega famous artists.
The independent industry, however, is blooming fantastically. It can't be denied. In 2009 Billboard
Magazine released a statement that 50% of all record sales and singles downloaded were by
independent record labels. That is huge! With access to promotional venues such as YouTube, Facebook
and Twitter, it's no wonder why so many sales are coming in these days for us independents.

On top of the ease of free promotion, there's even distribution available at a cost that is noticeably less
than it used to be. Back in the day you had to have some serious connections to make distribute your
artists, because most of the distribution was through major labels. Now, with companies such as
Tunecore, it's become possible to distribute artists on all the major retailers (such as iTunes) for a cost
that is affordable even for the 9-5 worker. If you're going to proceed in the rap game, however, you're
going to need to pick up some legit rap beats and purchase instrumentals so you can sell your music.
