Completing a stakeholder identication exercise can assist in identiying the necessaryparticipants to include in a climate adaptation planning process. The stakeholdersidentied may be individuals or groups you want to have on your adaptation team(see Worksheet 2) or who you might want to engage throughout the process, or exampleas part o your research eort or marketing strategy.The rst step in identiying stakeholders is to look at your community’s
spheres o inuence
. This exercise can help to identiy who your community is accountable to andwho it can learn rom. Exhibit 1.1 illustrates this idea:
with initiating the adaptation planning eort in the community; this sphere representsthe area that you have the most control and responsibility over.
have a direct relationship or partnership. It is important that the groups in this layerhave common goals and/or a shared purpose, but over which you may or may not havedirect control.

Also consider that stakeholders may move betweenthe dierent spheres as your adaptation work progresses.
