The Warp Ravens

The Warp Ravens are one of the second founding chapters of the Raven Guard.
Although they have been branded as traitors and heretics, they will often go to the aid of
human settlements which are under attack. And there have even been reports of the Warp
Ravens traveling large distances to aid the Raven guard in battles, often sending a large fleet
to attack the enemy briefly, causing massive amounts of damage and confusion before leaving
almost straight after, before the Raven Guard can catch up to them. There has only been one
occasion in which the Warp Ravens have gone planet side to aid the Raven guard in battle,
reports tell of 200 hundred assault marines carrying spear like power weapons, accompanied by
unusual dreadnaughts which deep striked into the middle of an Ork Waaaagh. With the sudden
attack the confused Orks were quickly defeated by the two armies. Reports also indicate that
the commanders of the Raven Guards and Warp raven’s forces (Kayvaan Shrike and Laniidae)
who were once brothers exchanged words, then blows before Laniidae removed Shrikes’
helmet. After that Laniidae sheathed his weapon and departed leaving an infuriated shrike and
his Raven Guard to see to their wounded and re-deploy.

Post-Heresy
Following the Horus Heresy Corax accepted without complaint the edicts of the Codex Astartes,
and the Raven Guard was split into three additional chapters, the Revilers, the Black Guard,
and the Raptors.

Unknown to many, there was also a fourth chapter created known as the Warp Ravens.
However this chapter was initiated into the 21st founding chapter system to try and remove
genetic faults in a Chapter’s gene-seed.

Homeworld
Besides the Warp ravens themselves and the Black Wolves, nobody knows where the Warp
Ravens planet is or how to get to it. The only time anybody has ever found the planet is by
accident when traveling through the warp or when lost in space. There has been one occasion
where an imperial class cruiser returned from the Warp Raven planet. They claimed they had
crashed by accident and the Warp Ravens and Black wolves helped the imperials repair the
ship, and wiped the ships memory before escorting them back to imperial space.

Raven Guard themselves are slightly unusual in that they do mingle with the population of and
are close to the people that serve them. The Chapter draws many recruits from the billions of
inhabitants and are held in the highest regard by them.

The Warp Ravens are no different in this, and many of the Warp ravens visit the population of
their world. In times of celebration, the Warp marines will remove their armour and join the
population, often visiting their old families if they are still alive, or visiting the families of their
Squad brothers.

Organisation
The Organization of the Warp Ravens is unlike many other chapters. The Warp Ravens use a
large number of Jump Packs and make use of a variety of weapons such as the reaper
autocannon and havoc launcher. It is suggested that when the Warp Ravens and the Black
wolves joined forces, the black wolves gained terminator armour, lascannons and assault
cannons while the Warp Ravens gained Jump packs and unusual weapons.
Doctrine
The Warp Ravens have two famous quotes to show their two most common Tactics
“If you can strike before your enemy even realize you are there or draw their weapons, then
you have already won the battle”
Laniidae- Master of Raven, Combat instructor/tactician of the Warp Ravens

This quote shows what the Warp Ravens are trained in more than any other Chapter: Speed.
When they are inducted for recruitment the warp ravens before any combat training have to
undergo Physical training to increase stamina and speed and mental training to increase
awareness. The warp ravens tactics normally involve shock tactics and almost everything in the
warp ravens army has high mobility.

“In the battlefield, the least likely place the enemy is going to look is directly above”

Laniidae- Master of Raven, Combat instructor/tactician of the Warp Ravens

Beliefs
The Warp Ravens, like the Raven Guard, see the Emperor as the founder of the Imperium and
not much more. They instead see that their loyalty lies to the Imperium of man, not its rulers
and see themselves as the common peoples ‘guardian angels’ or the ‘Ravens’ Mercy’

The leaders of the Warp Ravens emphasize initiative and tactical skill as much as or more so
than personal martial prowess. The Warp Ravens are much more likely to use a swift surgical
strike, than to engage in long protracted battles. However this tendency causes some tension
with the Black Wolves who are often head strong and rush into large conflicts.

Battle-cry
Unlike the Raven Guard the Warp Ravens have a battle cry but only use it in one Circumstance.
When fighting against the forces of the Inquisition. This battle cry is suitably “Death to the
Inquisition! Revenge for the falsely accused!”

Army appearance
Gene-Seed
The genetic material of the Raven Guard was greatly damaged by the accelerated processes
utilized following the Istvaan V Massacre. Much of the gene-stocks of the Raven Guard were
lost or irreparably damaged and as such a significant portion of the Chapter’s genetic material
comes from Terra. Additionally the process of transformation into a marine is notably higher in
the Raven Guard and many casualties early in training only add to the slow and limited
recruitment process of the Chapter. Even further degeneration in the gene-seed has caused
several of the implants to fail, the Betcher’s Gland and Mucranoid no longer exist within the
gene-seed of the Raven Guard, and other defects cause recruits to over time have their skin
become paler until it is as white as their Primarch’s, and the eyes and hair of the Astartes will
eventually become a deep black.
Gene Seed Alterations
The First Warp Raven to be given the altered Gene-seed was the Chapter Master Dalthios.
With Dalthios’ altered gene-seed the transformation process became accelerated and regulated
to that of the other space marine chapters, the Betcher’s gland and Mucranoid were re-
installed to the Gene-seed and the skin colour alteration although not removed became less
drastic. Without realizing the Gene-seed also increased Dalthios’ stamina and speed beyond
that of the normal Warp Raven which was already higher than most space marines. The Gene-
seed alteration was deemed a success and so the Warp ravens were all given the new altered
Gene-seed however none of the other Warp Ravens Speed and stamina was increased as
drastically as that of Dalthios

Famous Engagements
Repelling the inquisition- A few years after the Gene-seed alteration was deemed a success the
Inquisition moved to try and destroy the Warp Ravens and the Black Wolves. The Inquisition had
deemed the Chapters as ‘impure’ and tried to remove the ‘impurities’ the inquisition however
did not realize that the Warp Ravens and the Black Wolves chapter Masters were Friends and
Allies and so when contact with the Black Wolves cut, the Warp ravens departed to Aid them.
While the majority of the Inquisitions forces were focused on the planet side battles, the Warp
raven fleet moved in and quickly disposed of and captured the Inquisitorial fleet, before
Departing to Aid the Black Wolves. Unfortunately the Warp Ravens arrived too late to help the
majority of the Army but Managed to Rescue the Chapter Master Furlong, his two generals
Harkness and Dalymar, and destroyed the fleet before it could destroy the Black Wolves
Recruiting Worlds.
Excommunate traitoris- after the battle against the Inquisition the Black Wolves joined the
Warp Ravens and the Two armies fled. The Warp Ravens May have succeeded once but a larger
force would arrive when the Inquisition learnt of their Escape. Unfortunately when fleeing the
system an Imperial fleet with An Ultramarines Escort entered the System, the Warp Ravens
mistook them as Inquisition forces and opened Fire. Only after half of the Imperial fleet was
destroyed did the Warp Ravens Realise their mistake and quickly fled the system, knowing they
would never be able to return to imperial space without being attacked
Rescuing the kidnapped:
While the warp ravens were aiding a human colony defend against a Tau invasion, a Dark Eldar
raiding party managed to find and attack the warp ravens Temporary planet. When they
returned the Warp Ravens found the planet had half its inhabitants dead or missing. They saw
one dark Eldar ship straggling behind and immediately gave chase. When they arrived at the
dark Eldars camp on a large moon, they raised every building and killed every Dark Eldar who
raised arms against them…which was the majority. The eventually found where the prisoners
were being held and liberated them, along with one unknown human female who ,looked as
though she had been tortured heavily for a long period of time. This female eventually became
the most powerful Psyker in the warp ravens and became the only Psyker general of the Warp
Ravens
Famous Characters
Dalthios- Lord of raven- Chapter Master and Fleet commander of the Warp Ravens
Dalthios is the chapter master of the Warp Ravens and leads the entire Chapter. His skills and
speed in close combat, Stamina on the battlefield and Strong Leadership surpass those of most
High Regarded commanders. He is well respected by the chapter and the populations of the
Warp Ravens planets. With Furlong the Chapter Master of the Black Wolves, Dalthios was able
to Establish resource, recruitment, training and fortress worlds ensuring that Both The Warp
Ravens and the Black Wolves could maintain their numbers, Equipment and Defences

Laniidae- Master of Raven- Force Commander, Tactician and Combat Trainer of the Warp
Ravens
Laniidae is Dalthios’ Second in Command and one of his closest Friends. Laniidae was the
second to receive the Altered Gene seed and was also granted a large boost to his speed and
stamina, not as much as Dalthios, but higher than the other Warp Ravens. Laniidae Teaches all
of the Warp Ravens close combat Training and is the Personal trainer of Dalthios’ Veterans.
Each of whom are hand picked by Dalthios and are Trained in the Use of a Warp Blade.

Corian- Master Engineer- High Techmarine, Chronicler and keeper of the chapter
Corian is unable to fully use his speed and stamina on the battlefield due to the weight of his
artificer armour, servo harness and heavy bolter. Corian very rarely leaves his enclave, a
hidden fortress on one of the Warp Ravens Planets which is full of the Chapter Vehicles and
Equipment, the Enclave is full of the chapters Psykers who are respected by the chapter yet
feared. Corian and the Psykers see to maintaining the Chapter machinery and equipment,
although Corian is normally called upon in the final preparations as the Psykers only know how
to fix and maintain their individual E.X.O. suits (large dreadnaught like walkers that can deep
strike onto the battlefield, however require large amounts of energy to pilot, so the Psykers
must use their own Psychic energy to power the machines)

Drethine- Princess of raven- E.X.O commander, Diplomat and Daughter of the Warp Ravens
Drethine (although few are displeased about it) is the third in command of the Warp Ravens.
She is the Only Psyker with a Rank in the Warp Ravens and is often referred to as the
‘Daughter’ of raven as of Dalthios and Laniidaes attitude towards her; she is often used by the
Warp Ravens as a diplomat, because of her Beauty and Charm. Drethine has an uncontrollable
Hate for Dark Eldar and will often ask Dalthios to allow her to take part of the fleet to help her
destroy even the smallest raiding party. There was some speculation of infatuation between
Drethine and Thrax the heir to Furlongs title in the black wolves, although records also tell of
Drethine throwing Thrax through a land raider when he made a joke about her being a female
warrior

Dalthin- patriarch of the Warp Talons- bionic assassin, fury if the chapter
Very little is known about Dalthin, other than that Dalthin isn’t his real name, and the fact that
Dalthios named him in part, after himself, shows that he is very respected or important.
Dalthin is the patriarch of the Warp Talons, the Warp Ravens group of assassins. After suffering
terrible injuries at the hands of an Arco flagellant band after killing an Inquisitor, Corian
replaced the majority of Dalthins body with bionics, these bionics, combine with his skill and
anger, make an ultimate killing machine. It is believed that Drethine often spends time with
Dalthin, using her psychic abilities to calm him down, these occasions are when Dalthin can
talk to his fellows peacefully and his words normally inspire the warp Ravens, even though they
know, as soon as Dalthin is on the battlefield, his words are replaced by a bloody trail of
corpses

The Warp Ravens and the Black Wolves
The warp Ravens and the black wolves have been allies ever since both of the
chapter were inducted into the 21st founding chapter system, after they fled
the system, the chapter set up in an uncharted and unknown system, the 2
chapters live together on the system and have prospered greatly since there
arrival, the Warp Ravens settled on a high-gravity planet with mountainous and
forest regions whereas the Black wolves settled on a jungle planet. The
chapters also have a population of people on there planet: the black wolves’
people are all from there recruiting worlds when they fled, whereas the Warp
ravens’ people are also survivors or volunteers from when the Warp Ravens and
Black wolves have saved/ tried to save planets.

The warp Ravens and the Black Wolves rely on each other greatly, the Black
wolves have huge Forge works, where weapons, armour and vehicles are made.
Whereas the Warp Ravens’ enclave make the items work and maintain them
this is because the black wolves have lost the knowledge of how to make all
but slug weapons and engine vehicles work, whereas the Warp Ravens Lack the
materials required and ability forge. Also in the fleets, Warp Ravens normally
pilot the ships and manage the navigation while the black wolves maintain all
the physical work and man the guns. Again this is due to the difference of
abilities: the Warp ravens natural Initiative and reaction makes them excellent
pilots and navigators whereas the Black wolves natural Physique makes them
great laborers and gunners.

Both Groups have great respect for one another, a Black Would be treated with
honour, trust and respect on the Warp Raven planet and the same would be
given to the Warp Ravens on the Black wolf planet. Although records indicate
friendly banter between the two chapters, the Warp ravens often taunting the
black wolves that they always miss the fun on battle because they take too
long, and the Black wolves reply that at least they don’t hide behind cover
when the enemy opens fire.

Only one vessel has ever made contact with the Warp Ravens and Black Wolves.
An imperial cruiser crashed on one of the ‘uninhabited’ planets, the two
chapters arrived and helped repair the cruiser before escorting it back to
imperial space and wiping its chart records. The reports of the crew claim that
the system was extremely well protected, with at least 2 fleets and planetary
defenses on every planet and moon, even the uninhabited ones, and that any
attack on the system would be foolish, resource-costly, and most likely
unneeded. The crew was killed by the inquisition for being heretics and
sympathizers. The Warp Ravens and Black wolves made a vow to hunt down and
kill these forces before the next decade. And they have just prepared the fleet
for war
