Art and Its Importance

Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging symbolic elements in a way that influences and
affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. It encompasses a diverse range of human
activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture,
and paintings. The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics, and even
disciplines such as history and psychoanalysis analyze its relationship with humans and generations.

Traditionally, the term art was used to refer to any skill or mastery. This conception changed during the
Romantic period, when art came to be seen as a special faculty of the human mind to be classified with
religion and science. Generally, art is made with the intention of stimulating thoughts and emotions.

The Importance of Art:

Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is everywhere,
we experience it on a daily basis. From the houses we live in architecture to the movies we see theatre
to the books that we read literature. Even in ancient culture art has played a crucial role. In prehistoric
times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In biblical times paintings recorded the
life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded history. Most art is created for a specific
reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all
people.

Objectives of Arts
Art has had a great number of different functions throughout its history, making its purpose difficult to
abstract or quantify to any single concept. This does not imply that the purpose of Art is vague, but that
it has had many unique, different reasons for being created. Some of these functions of Art are provided
in the following outline. The different purposes of art may be grouped according to those that are non-
motivated, and those that are motivated.
 Arts Subjects and Themes
The arts are a vast subdivision of culture, composed of many creative endeavors and disciplines. It is a
broader term than "art," which as a description of a field usually means only the visual arts. The art
encompasses visual arts, literary arts and the performing arts - music, theatre, dance and film, among
others. This list is by no means comprehensive, but only meant to introduce the concept of the arts.

Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a work. Themes are usually implied
rather than explicitly stated. Deep thematic content is not required in a visual work; however, some
observers would say that all visual work inherently projects some kind of outlook on life that can be
taken as a theme.
