ಸಾರಾಂಶ: ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಬಳಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಕಾರ ಹಾಕಿದ ‘ಬರಹ’ ದಿಂದ ಇಂದಿನ ‘ನುಡಿ’ ಯವರೆಗಿನ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಅವಲೋಕಿಸುವ ಲೇಖನ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಕೀಲಿಮಣೆಯ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸವಿಲ್ಲದಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ತಂತ್ರಾಂಶಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿ-ಡ್ಯಾಕ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಕೊಡುಗೆ, ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರೀಕರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಇತರ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಮುನ್ನಡೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷಾ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರೀಕರಣ ಇನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಕ ಗೊಂದಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಮುಳುಗಿರುವುದನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ವಿಚಾರ ವಿನಿಮಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಒಂದೇ ವೇದಿಕೆ, ತಂತ್ರಾಂಶಗಳ ಮೌಲ್ಯೀಕರಣ, ಸರ್ವೇಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಬಳಕೆದಾರರ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಮುಂತಾದ ತುರ್ತಿನ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Abstract: Baraha software provided an opportunity to use Kannada in computers followed by few such applications like ‘lipi’. The article discusses the lack of a suitably designed keyboard and effective software to use Kannada in computers. Contribution of C-DAC and other such bodies in this respect is reviewed. Acknowledging the advances in computerization of other Indian languages, the article highlights the sorry state of affair of computerization in Kannada entangled with preliminary confusions and choas. A common discussion forum, evaluation of the available Kannada softwares, survey of adoption of available softwares and need for user forum are some of the urgent requirements.
