Diet for IBS
Most people who know they have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), go on a
diet for IBS
. Do youget stomach cramps, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea either frequently, or justnow and again? If you do, then you might have noticed that certain foods seem to bring on thesesymptoms, and so you try not to eat those things.IBS is a functional bowel disorder, which is characterized by (sometimes severe) abdominal painand changes in your bowel habits. It is a very embarrassing thing to have, very uncomfortableand painful, and often makes it difficult to go to social events or to travel. Of course, before youtry out things to relieve your symptoms, ask your doctor to take some tests to make sure you dohave IBS and not some other illness. If you look on the internet and in bookstores, you will find numerous recommendations in regardto the best diet. Some say to stop all dairy foods, fatty foods, sugary foods and yeast ( found inbread and other foods that come from the bakery, and also beer). One recommendation is to eatlots of green fruit and vegetables, and lean meat, fish and chicken is okay to eat also.I used to drink a green drink or two each day. You can make it in a blender. It is best to go to amarket and get fresh fruit and vegetables. Buy every green fruit, salad and vegetable you can find- celery, parsley, baby spinach, broccoli, zucchini, kiwi fruit, bok choy, and avocado. Put all your green foods into a blender, and add a little fresh pineapple for a nicer taste. If there are too manydry foods to mix it properly, add a little water.I used the above diet for a number of years, and if I spent the day drinking and eating what I wassupposed to eat, my day was okay. If I went out to dinner, it was not easy to select the right food.It was not much fun for me to make green drinks and not being able to eat all the things I wantedto when I went out for dinner. When I went out, I often spent some time in my car lying down tohelp relieve the symptoms, or going for a walk. Sometimes, nothing really helped, except to givemy digestive system time to get over it.Remind me to show you a video of my husband and I telling you what happened when we went toa Fawlty Towers show. The food was terrible and, well, my husband got a laugh out of it.
