Decision Making Process

The decision making process in ASC was conducted on weekly basis. The teams met each
Monday for 2 hours. In the first hour they reviewed and discussed issues like the financial
performance, integrating milestones and key market development. Despite the hour spent on
discussion, the survey conducted by the consultant revealed that many members felt that some
key agenda topics were not being discussed sufficiently, like division strategies and resource
allocation( according to the consultant’s survey the time spent on division strategies was ranked
2.1, while its importance was ranked 4.1). The group was also not giving the required time to
discuss key areas of focus like competitors and customers (time spent on customers ranked 1.5,
while its importance was ranked 4.1). This was majorly because the group sent more time in
presentations than in group discussion.

During the second hour the group had a more in-depth discussion about a particular topic and it
was during this time that decision making occurred. Each month the group also had a 3- hour
meeting with the CEO Steve Archibald to update the corporate management on key projects or
initiatives at ASC.

The group engaged in a decision making process that combined team interaction, sub-group
discussions, and one-on-one meeting with Barrett.
