The Gospel Exalted
1
Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for thegospel of God,
2
which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures,
3
concerning His Son, who birth placed Him in the genealogy of Davidaccording to the flesh,
4
who the Father had declared the Son of God with power by the resurrectionfrom the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,
5
through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about theobedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name's sake,
6
among whom you also have received the calling of Jesus Christ;
7
to all who have become the beloved of God in Rome, called as saints:Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because peopleproclaim your faith throughout the whole world.
9
For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of HisSon, witnesses as to how unceasingly I make mention of you,
10
always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you.
11
For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, thatyou may become established;
12
namely, that I may receive encouragement together with you while amongyou, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.
13
I do not want you to remain ignorant, brethren, that often I have plannedto come to you (but something has prevented me so far) so that I mayobtain some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.
14
I feel under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wiseand to the foolish.
15
So, for my part, I eagerly reach the gospel to you also who live in Rome.
16
For I do not feel ashamed of the gospel, for it brings the power of God forsalvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
17
For in it the righteousness of God has become revealed from faith to faith;as the scriptures declare, " BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BYFAITH."
Unbelief and Its Consequences
18
For the wrath of God has emanated from heaven against all ungodlinessand unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
19
because that people know about God they see within them; for God madeit evident to them.
20
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternalpower and divine nature, people have clearly seen, understanding throughwhat God has made, so that they have no excuse.
21
For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or givethanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heartdarkened.
22
Professing to have wisdom, they became fools,
23
and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the formof corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawlingcreatures.
24
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, sothat their bodies would suffer dishonor among them.
25
For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and servedthe creature rather than the Creator, who we blessed forever. Amen.
26
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for theirwomen exchanged the natural function for that which we deem unnatural,
27
and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of thewoman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with mencommitting indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penaltyof their error.
28
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gavethem over to a depraved mind, to do those things which we do not considerproper,
29
filled themselves with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they gossip,
30
slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil,disobedient to parents,
31
without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
32
and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practicesuch things make themselves worthy of death, they not only do the same,but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

The Impartiality of God
1
Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, forin that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judgepractice the same things.
2
And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those whopractice such things.
3
But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those whopractice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?
4
Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance andpatience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?
5
But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you have storedup wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6
who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS:
7
to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor andimmortality, eternal life;
8
but to those who act selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, butobey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.
9
There will come tribulation and distress for every soul of man who doesevil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek,
10
but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jewfirst and also to the Greek.
11
For God does not show partiality.
12
For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law,and all who have sinned under the Law will receive judgment by the Law;
13
for God does not justify the hearers of the Law, but justifies the doers of the Law .
14
For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, act lawfully by themselves,
15
in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, theirconscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or elsedefending them,
16
on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
The Jew Condemns himself by the Law
17
But if you bear the name "Jew" and rely upon the Law and boast in God,
