Lower Georgia Avenue Transportation and Streetscape Study
Project Overview
DDOT has initiated the Lower Georgia Avenue Transportation and Streetscape Study. This study is partof the Great Streets Initiative, a multi-year, multiple-agency effort to transform under-invested corridorsinto thriving and inviting neighborhood centers. Great Streets uses public actions and tools such as thedesigns that will come out of this study, to leverage private investment. Georgia Avenue, NW has beenidentified as a Great Street, and as such, DDOT and its partner agencies want to improve transportationservices along the corridor to facilitate expanded local economic development and mobility. Byaddressing the transportation mobility challenges, DDOT will contribute to the livability and economicsuccesses of the area. DDOT will collaborate with the community and partner agencies to develop a
consensus vision
for amultimodal transportation design and management plan that will preserve, strengthen and create a vibrantdiversified corridor and commercial neighborhood, while at the same time improve the efficiency of movement of all modes through this principal arterial as part of a city and regional transportation system. The project team will seek solutions to the transportation challenges by following the

Strengthening the environment for local businesses, institutions and services along the corridor2)
Improving the natural environment including thriving street trees, low-impact design and green space3)
Creating a sustainable transportation network offering many efficient travel options4)
Creating distinct streets that reflect local history, character, and priorities5)
Increasing community ownership and pride
