  Job DescriptionDowntown Development Director 
The Downtown Director manages the day-to-day communications and operations of Lorain GrowthCorporation (LGC).
The Downtown Director is expected to monitor the organization’s environment, both externally andinternally, and identify those issues that will affect the organization. It is the responsibility of the Director to be able to communicate the strategic implications of various issues and providerecommendations for appropriate actions.
The Downtown Director is expected to establish good rapport and communications with the Boardof Directors, other organizations and committees, elected officials, governmental agencies andthe media to achieve the mission of the organization. Wherever possible, the DowntownDirector will work to establish partnerships with other community organizations and publicagencies/special events.
The Downtown Director will work under the general supervision of the LGC Board of Directors. TheDowntown Director shall maintain regular contact with the Board of Directors betweenregularly scheduled meetings of the Board through the President acting as liaison for the Board.
The Downtown Director is the administrative staff and manager of the organization’s day-to-dayactivities. This includes the coordination and training of committees and the supervision of volunteers.
Works with staff to promote and market Downtown Lorain to a culturally and economically diverseaudience and to enrich the lives of all residents of the Downtown area as well as visitors to thearea.
Responsible for providing leadership and policy guidance for Downtown Councils & Committees.
Will manage and direct all operations and activities of LGC and its partners.
Will implement the policy decisions and directives of the LGC Board of Directors.
Will develop and maintain contacts with downtown business and property owners. Acts as a liaisonfor the downtown business community to the Merchants Association, communicating theirconcerns to the Board and communicating the Board’s perspective to them. Will build support for LGC in downtown and facilitates and assists in membership development efforts indowntown and the larger community.
Advises the Board of Directors in a timely fashion of any developments which may affect theorganization.
Approves all financial disbursements and otherwise monitors all financial and accounting activitiesin accordance with the “accounting policies and procedures” and bylaws LGC.
Prepares an annual budget with the assistance of the Treasurer and the Finance Committee.
Coordinates special events, festivals, and other cultural activities as required.
Assists the Treasurer and the Secretary in filing all reports required of the organization by local,state and financial regulatory, enforcement and licensing agencies.
Maintains organizational records, files, documents and archives.
Regularly informs the membership at large of the organizations activities.
Represents LGC to other organizations, the media, elected officials and the public.
Prepares agenda books, bulletins, reports, daily correspondence, and other necessary materials andcommunications, including newsletter and articles.
Facilitates the preparation of the annual work plan, annual financial plan, and any strategicplanning for LGC.
Facilitates the training of new Board members.
Facilitates and assists the Board in developing fund raising activities/development skills and plans.Monitors the Associations progress in meeting annual budget requirements and assists in orcoordinates fund raising efforts as needed to ensure that the budget is met.
Coordinates and trains volunteers.
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
Maintains the LGC office –
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationshipswith other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

This position is subject to pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspiciontesting, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor degree in marketing, retail,business administration, economic development or a related field, and three (3) years of relatedretail, development or marketing experience, or any equivalent combination of education andexperience. Non-profit experience is desirable.
Experience working with volunteers desirable.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in administration and coordination of a comprehensiveand strategically based communications and marketing program.
Experience in comprehensive downtown revitalization programs; media production management,including print, broadcast, electronic, and digital production; print and electronic publicationproduction management.
A comprehensive knowledge of all forms of communications production, including PSAs, book andbrochure publication in both print and electronic formats, web-based programming, and audio andvisual programming.
Ability to establish lines of communication among all levels of organization, from executive toassociation members.
Demonstrated ability to build community and corporate relationships and promotionalpartnerships beneficial to all participants.
Demonstrated participation in professional affiliate organizations. Ability to present institutionalinterests to those outside the organization in a professional and compelling manner.
Knowledgeable about the various uses of audience databases for research and direct marketingpurposes, and prior direct experience in information collection, retrieval and communication.
Demonstrated knowledge of emerging communications technologies. Knowledgeable about thefield of downtown revitalization, consumer behavior, and areas of market research.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement customer-focused strategic marketing plans utilizinga variety of marketing communications media.
Experience in the strategic development of audience-based comprehensive communications andmarketing plans for organizations or events required.
Knowledge and experience with corporate citizenship including in-kind philanthropic andcommunity service, and direct program sponsorship, provided by the corporate community.
Documented success in working with all forms of communications media to promote and advocatespecific areas, programs, and/or events.
Experience in developing compelling marketing messages and coordinating marketing campaignsin strategically combined media.
Direct experience in publication production including brochures, pamphlets, books and manuals fordiverse audiences, in other aspects of graphic design and production; in the development of comprehensive and coordinated media plans for advertising and targeted editorial coverage, in allcommunications media formats.
Valid Ohio driver’s license.
Ability to train and motivate volunteer staff.
Working knowledge of personal computers and software; knowledge of financial software; specificknowledge of Microsoft Word and QuickBooks is desirable.
Ability to accurately record and maintain records.
Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with councils, partners, City personnel, andthe public.
