Subject: Unit 4 project proposal
Date: November 9, 2012
Introduction: The purpose of this proposal is to inform you of the form, technology aspects,
and visual aspects that this project will take. In this proposal I will be introducing the topic I
plan on supporting and the reasons why I am supporting this topic. I am also including the kind
of technology I will be using along with what kind of visual aspects that will be in my project. I
am also including the methods I plan on taking, my objectives, a timeline, an evaluation, a
grading rubric, and a works cited section.

Proposal: For this English 320, Unit 4 assignment, I plan on promoting the Greek life
community. Not only the Greek life community at NDSU, but the Greek life communities all
over the country as well. I have been a part of the Greek life community at NDSU for almost
two years now. I have experienced the good things that Greek life offers, and I have seen and
experienced the stereotypes that some people put on our community. The members and leaders
of our community strive every day to promote our community in the best possible way and to
break down some of those stereotypes. It seems to be a constant battle, and I believe we’re doing
a good job growing and promoting our community in the best possible way.

I plan on presenting an informational brochure to you which describes the different aspects of
Greek life, leadership opportunities, social opportunities, scholarship opportunities, and some
stereotypes about Greek life as well. The visual aspects of this brochure will include a chart of
the leadership opportunities in Greek life versus the leadership opportunities for a non-Greek
college student. Other visual aspects will include pictures of the Greek community so that
readers can get a visual of what the Greek community looks like on campus. I am also thinking
about including a map of NDSU along with the Greek community so that students know where
the Greek community is located. For the technology aspect of this project I plan on using my
cannon digital camera to take any pictures and using Windows Photo Gallery to upload them
onto my computer and then placing them into a word document. The main program that I plan
on using for this project is Microsoft Office Word. I will deliver this brochure either to your
mailbox, classroom, or office. I’m planning on the length being 5 to 6 brochure pages long. I
will do some interviewing in my Sorority house along with researching our school’s website and
some major Greek life websites. The reading aspect of this project will contain a works cited
page, which will contain my research and background information for this project.

Objectives: My overall goal for this assignment is to successfully present information about the
Greek community in the form of a brochure. I really want this brochure to pop, not just visually
but in the context as well. I want to bring up some controversial topics and some topics that
people wouldn’t even think would be listed under Greek life. This goal is appropriate because as
a student I am constantly seeking the approval of professors and other students. I’m exploring
this topic mainly because it’s a subject that has become close to my heart and I care about what
is going to happen to the Greek community long after I leave NDSU. I will also learn many
things while completing this project, learning objectives are as follows:
 I will learn how to create a brochure on my computer using Word document.
 Learn how to cite interviews and conduct professional interviews.
 I will become more efficient in creating the visual aspects on my brochure.
 I will become better equipped with contacting resources for my informational report. I
will have to contact the NDSU Greek life office and other Greek life websites.
 I will gain knowledge as to how important information on a brochure can be.
 I will learn to express something that means a lot to me in a very efficient way.
Methods: I plan on using the next couple of months as efficiently as I can to complete this
project. I plan on working on this project through a four week period.
 The week of October 18, I will work on my proposal for this individual project. The
proposal includes my objectives, methods, timeline, grading rubric, and references.
 I will start interviewing the president of my Sorority on the week of November 11, 2010.
I plan on asking her what projects our Sorority/Greek community has done in the past to
promote ourselves. This will give me a list of things our Greek community has actually
done to either help others in the community or the things we have done to promote Greek
life throughout the NDSU campus.
 The week of November 15, I plan on putting all of my research together from
interviewing and from Greek websites to start putting my brochure together. This will
include a layout of how I want my brochure to look and in which order my information
will be in.
 The week of November 22, I will complete my progress report to show you what I have
completed so far. I will also work on the actual layout of the brochure on my computer
along with the visual aspects that my brochure will contain.
 The week of November 29, I will complete any visual aspects on my brochure and
complete my work cited for the brochure. After this is completed I will proofread and
correct any visual aspects on the brochure.
Timeline: The following timeline table meets hand in hand with my methods section. I plan on
getting all of my work done in a five week period. My proposal is an assignment that is worked
on in an entirely different week, which is where the fifth week is added in.

Evaluation: You will be evaluating my project based on the content, visual choices, readability
guidelines, and my proofreading skills. I will also be following my own rubric for this project.
The things that will be important in my rubric are organization, clear objective, clear timeline,
