Miss Enger,

In this progress report I will be informing you on what I have been working on so far for my
individual project. The purpose of this report is to inform you of the things I have accomplished
so far and some of the things that haven’t gone as planned. I plan on making an informational
brochure which will inform the NDSU student body how much the Greek community does for
NDSU and the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Results from the past two weeks

So far I have completed the unit 4 proposal, which includes my objectives, methods, timeline,
and a grading rubric. I have also completed some online research about Greek life all over the
country as well as the Greek life on the NDSU campus in particular. I have also been asking
some of the leaders in my sorority about some of the work that we have done lately as a Greek
community that has affected NDSU or the Fargo-Moorhead area. This information will be very
important in my brochure; these are the actual facts which will help persuade my audience that
the people in Greek life work hard to keep the campus and the area in good shape.

There are some things I which I could have gotten done that I just didn’t have time to do so far. I
made my timeline in a way which I could try to manage this project along with all of my other
assignments in my other classes. Some of the things I haven’t gotten done is actually
interviewing the president of my sorority and starting to layout information onto my brochure. I
have mainly been focusing on getting the information that will glue my brochure together.
Information relating to huge philanthropy events, scholarship opportunities, and the amount of
time the Greek community spends to help others in their community. Stereotypes are also a huge
part of this brochure, this information will help the readers see the challenges the Greek
community faces.

Some of the first things that you will see if you Google Greek life will be binge drinking and
hazing. The Greek community has been accused of binge drinking for many years all across
America. Our community seems to be a target audience for binge drinking on campus. It’s hard
for our community to get past this stereotype and to actually be seen as a serious community.
Another issue is hazing, something that was done at the dawn of Greek life. However, on the
NDSU campus hazing is completing forbidden. These are some of the main issues I want to hit
in this brochure. I feel that these are some serious issues that readers want to hear about and that
they probably want to know if some of these myths are true or not. I plan on giving my audience
solid answers to these controversial topics.

As I mentioned in the paragraphs above it has been hard for me to meet some of the deadlines
that I have made for myself for this project. It has been challenging for me to work on this
project as well as other projects I have for other classes. These are challenges that a student
faces in college. Every student plans to do well, but things are sometimes a lot harder than they
seem. Keeping up with classes, organizations, and work can be hard. This is a learning period
for college students. We start to face how hard the real world is along with some of the fluffs of
being a college student. I plan on learning from the mistakes I make as a student and starting to
pick up the pieces of this project.

Plans for the next couple of weeks

The next couple of weeks will be busy, with having to catch up on the things I haven’t had time
to do so far along with trying to keep up with my original timeline. My main goal is to get all of
the information I need in the next week. Scholarship information, aspects of Greek life,
leadership opportunities, and stereotypes about the Greek community are some of my main
focuses. I also need to interview the president of my sorority along with contacting the NDSU
Greek life office. Lastly, I will need to start laying out my brochure and putting all of my
information together. This may take some time, so I should allow myself a good week to get all
of the information together.

Conclusion

As I continue to complete this project I plan on giving myself a daily schedule of the things I
must complete for this project to make it easier for me to complete this project by the due date. I
want to make this informational brochure as persuasive as possible. I believe that being
persuasive is the key to any brochure. Especially in this case because I want my target audience
to go and actually check out the Greek community for themselves, I want this to be the turning
point for my readers. As far as the visual aspects go for my project, I know that I need to make it
as eye catching as possible as well as something that fits the topic. My readers should see the
cover of my brochure and immediately have the urge to open the cover. I am hoping for an
overall pleasing layout to my brochure.

Sincerely,

Chelsea Wendlandt
