It is ironic that the most important element of agolf swing is also the least practiced, as undoubtedly itsimportance is least understood of all the aspects.Riveting stuff that; some might say shortly beforegetting into a trot towards the bar for another drink, but Idare you to ruminate on this undeniable fact: The grip isthe steering wheel of the swing and yet most players blindly put their foot on the gas and heave ho, have a gowithout much care for the said steering heel. It isunquestionable that this heaving and hoeing leads tomuch pain and tribulation which in turn leads to aquestion: Why on this blue and green earth of ours, do people not take more care and time to learn the grip?On closer scrutiny of my own past in regards tothis issue, I realized some truths that were a tad to closeto my heart and filled me with a sense of guilt in regardsto it. You see; I myself; in the beginning was an averagegolfer, blindly swinging my way around eighteen holes, slowly bringing my handicap down until the yearly clubchampionship which inevitably brought me much pain incolossal failures. The idea of a set grip was as close tome as a honey bee would be to an underwater antipodean, blind fish. In truth, my grip hovered betweenMichelangelo’s grip on his finest paint brush and Thorsgrip on his hammer.
