Worm case of Cadbury:
 CDM with infested with worm in the year october
2003,which lead to the decrease in the sales of the
cadbury.
 Media highlighted this issue as the poor packaging
facilities of the company.
 But the company replied it as storage related
problem at dealer’s location.
 Project “vishwas”

1. Company under the project “VISHWAS” tried to restore the faith which the
customers had earlier by using ‘Amitabh Bachan’ as brand ambassador,
because of his referral power as he is a role model for people of all age groups
in India.
Company purchased advanced packaging machinery which provides airtight
packages.
2. Company changed it’s packaging to double wrap to ensure customers that
package is really hygienic.
3. It even telecasted in media the way how cadbury is manufactured and
packaged under hygienic condition.
4. With in 8 weeks after the launch of new packaging the sales of the cadbury
was restored to earlier position and faith was restored among the customers
regarding the hygienic conditions.
What cadbury did?
 Company used ‘Amitabh Bachan’ as Brand ambassador as
he can connect people with the brand effectively.
 In order to restore the Previous brand image company used
the various media source that highlighted about the changed
package and improved hygienic conditions.
What cadbury should do in future to
prevent such incidents?
 It should invest more in R&D.
 It should educate retailers and dealers about storage conditions.
 It must ensure that quality control and quality assurance
department check each and every sample before it is dispatched.
 It should allow customers to visit their manufacturing plant to
have an real time experience of the hygienic conditions
maintained at cadbury plant.
 Cadbury should use media as a channel to create awareness of
the improved packaging conditions.
 It should declare in media that if any pack of Cadbury is found
infested with worms again they can sue company for penality.
