th
August 2008. 12-2pmSafety Precautions
CyclingThe group will have varying degrees of cycling experience and confidence. We want to make sure you feel safe andhave put in place the following measures –
1.
There will be a hired rickshaw leading the group at the front and one following us at the back. We have aqualified first-aider riding in the rickshaw at the back.
2.
We have chosen one-way streets where possible to avoid oncoming traffic (see the Programme below).
3.
We have stewards who will ride on the side of oncoming traffic on two-way roads. Meet them at 12pm at our meeting point. There will be a safety talk before we depart.
4.
We will hand out maps on the day with the route clearly marked out.5.We have regular regroup points in order to wait for those who lag behind due to traffic, traffic lights or slowspeed.6.We will have water and drinks in the rickshaw at the front which can be accessed at regroup points; pleasemake sure that you’re hydrated throughout the ride.7.We advice that you read through the suggestions below for a safe and smooth ride.Suggestions1.Bring a cycling helmet with you and wear appropriate footwear (e.g. avoid sandals/flip flops).
2.
Ensure that the bike you’re riding is adjusted for your height and is equipped with working brakes and a bell.
3.
Please make sure you read through the Programme to familiarise yourself with road names on the route.
4.
Arrive promptly at 12pm in order to meet the stewards. If you’re feeling nervous, let them know so they cangive you tips and look out for you whilst on route.
5.
Let us know on the day about any relevant medical conditions you have.
