BIOINFORMATICS

Bioinformatics is the application of statistics and computer science to the field of molecular biology.

GOALS OF BIOINFORMATICS
Major research efforts in the field include‡sequence alignment ‡gene finding ‡genome assembly ‡drug design ‡drug discovery ‡protein structure alignment ‡protein structure ‡the modeling of evolution.

SEQUENCE ANALYSIS
‡The comparison of sequences in order to find similarity and dissimilarity in compared sequences (sequence alignment) ‡Identification of gene-structures.

BLAST
‡Basic Local Alignment Search Tool ‡For comparing primary biological sequence information, such as the aminoacid sequences of different proteins or the nucleotides of DNA sequences. ‡Compare a query sequence with a library or database of sequences.
