Final Reflection

Writing, a word that ever since I can remember, has been the death of me. Coming

in to college I thought nothing would change my outlook on it and that any writing class

would just be awful for me. Well… I was wrong, the reason… English 1101. English 1101 has

many aspects about it that just helps you become a better writer. Here in my final reflection

I will talk about how I feel about are main body of work, our papers, as well as what has

helped me along the way with becoming a better writer and my final thoughts on this

course.

In this class the main criteria was of course our main papers such as the Significant

Event and Explaining papers. Like I said to open, high school writing was dumb and the

topics were stuff I really didn’t care about and ones that I had no clue how to write. With

these papers though, it was different. I could write about almost anything I wanted to. Like

with one of the papers, the Significant Event one to be exact, I wrote about winning the

state championship for football with my high school and the experience we had thru the

whole week and day of the game and the intensity and excitement that was experienced

within the 48 minutes of the game itself. With being able to write whatever topic you

wanted it was very easy for me to write about the game because being the one that
experienced it, I made my writing feel like the reader was actually me and made them feel

as if they were actually there. I had never been able to do that before with my writings and

it just made me feel proud because I had been trying to be able to tell stories like that

before but never really had the opportunity too so I definitely loved that feeling of freedom.

Of course in writing you’re going to mistakes and sometimes those mistakes are

ones you may not see. In this class Peer Reviews were very beneficial not just to me but to

the whole class. Knowing how are pieces of writing could become easier for an individual to

understand or to read really helped us all I believe make better grades on our papers. I

know they helped me a lot and I always used these to my advantage. Other such work that

helped me in this course was little techniques such as clustering, looping, and

brainstorming. These techniques helped me keep on track with my goals for the each paper

and how I wanted to arrange them. I could definitely tell a difference in my writing before

and after I used these techniques because my papers just sounded better altogether than

they had back in high school.

Since writing my last course reflection, not much has change involving how I look at

things in English 1101. I still feel that I have taken a dramatic step forward in how I write

pieces of literature and definitely feel more proud with my work. English 1101 has helped

me discover myself as a writer and made me not hate writing so much. The topics of work

we discussed were topics that I could relate to and weren’t dumb topics like we used to

write about in high school. The process I take when developing my work is more in depth

and makes the reader feel like there in the action of the story. I learned more in this one
class than I ever had the past 12 years of grade school and I will take all this with me for the

rest of my academia career and beyond.
