Graph Function
•
The
graph
of a function
f
is the collection of all ordered pairs (
x
,
f
(
x
)). Inparticular, if
x
is a real number,
graph
means the graphical representation of thiscollection, in the form of a curve on a Cartesian plane, together with Cartesianaxes
•
Graphing on a Cartesian plane is sometimes referred to as
curve sketching
. Ifthe function input
x
is an ordered pair (
x
1
,
x
2
) of real numbers, the graph is thecollection of all ordered triples (
x
1
,
x
2
,
f
(
x
1
,
x
2
)), and its graphical representation isa surface
•
The graph of a function on real numbers is identical to the graphic representationof the function
•
The graph of a function is the set of all points whose co-ordinates (
x
,
y
) satisfythe function
y
=
f
(
x
). This means that for each
x
-value there is a corresponding
y
-value which is obtained when we substitute into the expression for
f
(
x
).
•
The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs (x, f(x)), where x is in thedomain of f and y = f(x).
•
Since there is no limit to the possible number of points for the graph of thefunction, we will follow this procedure at first:- select a few values of
x
- obtain the corresponding values of the function- plot these points by joining them with a smooth curve
•
A graph is sometimes also called a plot.
•
A collection of vertices and edges connecting them.
•
A function is a relation (usually an equation) in which no two ordered pairs havethe same x-coordinate when graphed.
