Johnny Buck has an interest in beautiful women—and the Grim Reaper has an interest in Johnny Buck. Raised by a father with anti-social values, Johnny begins life slightly on the shallow side. His classmate in grade school, Julie Anderson, is attracted to his imagination and spunk—but he rebuffs her friendly advances—because her features are a little too plain.

At three times during his life, he is visited by three exotic women who share identical eyes that match his. And they have the same name: Angela. They seem to show up one step ahead of the Angel of Death, and disappear quickly—leaving Johnny in a funk.

A failed writer, himself, Johnny finds himself growing increasingly attracted to the literary works of the mysterious, reclusive novelist, Samantha Sommers. He’d like to meet her and suggests that in a letter—but she thinks that’s a bad idea.

Eventually fate draws them together—but she is not what Johnny Buck expected.
