Ad Analysis
I believe this is a very deep commercial for Lebron James because of all the stress that he
is going through because of decisions that he’s made and decisions that he needs to make but is
having trouble. The commercial starts out with Lebron sitting in a chair, staring down at the
ground. Then he turns his head and asks what people think he should do. He also reminds the
audience that he already made a decision before similar to the one he just made, which made him
a player on the Miami Heat. Then he shows Lebron when he was younger in High school staring
at a trophy case. What Lebron is talking about is back in his High School days when He went to
the private school in his city instead of going to the public high school with all his friends and
teammates.
Then the commercial goes to Lebron driving by in a car say “should I tell you how much
fun we had” as he watches a big Nike advertisement of him with his arms wide open fall down.
Then in the next scene we see Lebron up on stage with a big hall of fame Banner behind him.
Then he ask; “Should I really believe I’ve ruined my legacy?” and walks off the stage. Then you
see Lebron sitting in a chair with no shirt getting his tattoo removed. He then asks ; “Should I
have my tattoo removed?”. Then you see Lebron in a gym with a headband on and he ask;
“Wanna see my shiny new shoes, should I just sell shoes?” Then It shows Lebron walking up to
a display outside of a store with his sneakers on it. Then it shows Lebron playing basketball in a
gym and he says; “Or should I tell you I am not a role model, Hi chuck”. Then there are clips of
Lebron still playing basketball but you hear him saying; “Seriously what should I do, should I
tell you I’m a Championship chaser, did it for the money, rings, should I be who you want me to
be?”
Then there is a change in scenario to a desert where the words “The Villain” pop out and
you see Lebron James in a black cowboy suit and says; “Should I accept my role as a villain”,
then it goes back to him in the gym, then he whispers; “Maybe I should just disappear” then
everything goes black for a few seconds. Then we see Lebron covering his ears and his friends
around him giving him suggestions. He then says; “Should I stop listening to my friends, there
my friends?” Then the scenario changes again and we are back in the gym with Lebron where he
says “Should I try acting?” Then we see Lebron James in a nice pink suit with an actor. The actor
says “Just gotta deal with the heat man, be patient after a while the temperature drops and
everything is free and easy” The Lebron asks if he should have been writing that down.
Now we see Lebron laughing and he asks if he should make people laugh. Then we see
Lebron on stage with a microphone and asks if he should read a soulful poem, he then starts
reading off a piece of paper “Shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, but still
like air, I rise” Then walks off stage. We then see Lebron in a Constructor outfit driving a
Tractor and says “Or should we just clear the decks and start over” as he clears the decks on a
basketball court as some people are playing on it. Then it shows him again back in the Gym and
he asks’ “What should I do?” as all the clips that were shown before are quickly replayed. Then
the Commercial ends with Lebron going up for a layup and saying “should I be who you want
me to be?”
I believe that this is a great ad because it has deep meaning. I’m personally not a really
big Lebron James fan, but this commercial alone made me respect him more as a player. A lot of
people have been giving him a hard time because he left the Cleveland cavaliers and went to the
Miami heat. It was a low move because the city did show him a lot of love and support but he
explains in this commercial that it isn’t up to anyone else but himself to decide what he is going
to do with his life. To make a commercial like this takes a lot of courage especially knowing that
I believe this ad should be aired for many reasons. One reason is because it clearly gets
the point across that he knows what he did doesn’t seem right in the public’s eyes but that’s not
all that’s important when you’re making a life changing decision. Now he feels like he is being
viewed up upon as a villain because he betrayed his city, but at the same time he just did what
would be better for his life. This ad also shows that Lebron has really been thinking and stressing
All Lebron is trying to say in this commercial is that he is living “his’ life, not Jordan, not
Bill gates, not yours. He wants people to accept him for him and the choices he makes. He wants
to be considered a role-model, but I bet it wouldn’t really affect him in a negative way if people
What do you think Lebron was trying to say by making this commercial?
- I think he just wants everyone to leave him alone.
I don’t know, it kind of made me hate him a little more just because I never knew he was so
cocky.
What do you think Lebron was trying to say by making this commercial?
I get the point that he is going to do what he wants to do, but I still don’t understand why he
betrayed his team like that. He just wants people to leave him alone and let him play ball.
