Encyclopedia of Mathematical Physics
First comprehensive interdisciplinary coverage
JEAN-PIERRE FRANÇOISE
Professor Françoise graduated in Mathe-matics and in Physics from Grenoble Uni-versity, France and is currently professorofMathematics at the Université P-M.Curie, Paris 6, France, and a member of theLaboratoireJacques-Louis Lions. His sci-entific research activity focuses on smalloscillations near equilibrium of Hamiltoniansystems, singularity theoryof functions andvector fields, normal forms and semi-clas-sical analysis, integrable systems, bifurcationtheoryof dynamical systems, finitenessproperties of singular projections of analyticsets, bursting oscillations, synchronizationand phase locking of weakly coupled oscil-lators and isochronous systems.
GREGORY L. NABER
Dr. Gregory L. Naber received all three of his degrees in Mathematics from Carnegie-Mellon University and has since held posi-tions in Pennsylvania, California, HongKong and Tennessee. His areas of interestinclude differential topology and geometryand, most particularly, their interactionwith mathematical physics. It is this inter-action, and the desireto make it morewidely known, appreciated and utilized inthe mathematical community that hasmotivated nearly all of his published work,as well as his involvement with theEncyclopedia of Mathematical Physics.
TSOU SHEUNG TSUN
Dr. Tsou Sheung Tsun obtained her B.Sc. inHong Kong and her Doctorat es Sciences inGeneva. She has held research fellowshipsat Wadham College, Oxford, and at theMathematical Institute, Oxford, where sheis now on the Faculty.Trained both as amathematician and a physicist, Dr.Tsouhas worked in gauge theory, string theoryand particle physics. Recently she has con-centrated on theoretical problems connect-ed with the generation puzzle, neutrinooscillation and electric-magneticduality.She is also active in the EuropeanMathematical Society and European Women in Mathematics.

Based on some 400 carefully selected entries writtenby an international group of experts, the encyclopediaenables readers to uncover the extensive body of knowledge that has accumulated in MathematicalPhysics. It provides, for the first time, a completeresource for researchers, students and lecturers inthis interdisciplinary subject. It also aims to stimulatenew research in mathematical physics and to fosterapplications of its methods to new fields.
The encyclopedia is published as a print set and also released as anelectronic reference source on ScienceDirect, the electronic platform of all Elsevier electronic publications. Electronic access offers increasedfunctionality, including internal and external links that will enableefficient cross-referencing between related subjects and references to related material. More information on theonline book program on ScienceDirect can be found at
