Professional Background of Dr. Douglas Southgate
Dr. Douglas Southgate
is an economist, has a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin, and has been a professor at Ohio State University since 1980. His researchfocuses on tropical deforestation and other environmental problems in developingcountries, especially in Latin America. Two of the five books he has written werepublished by Oxford University Press:
 Economic Development and the Environment 
 (written with Morris Whitaker about Ecuador) and
Tropical Forest Conservation
.Furthermore, Dr. Southgate has written more than 25 book chapters in edited volumesand 30 articles in scholarly journals. He has worked for the Ford Foundation, Inter-American Development Bank, World Bank, and U.S. Agency for InternationalDevelopment (USAID) in 16 countries. Also, he has been a member of the TropicalEcosystems Directorate for the U.S. Man and the Biosphere Program. In 1987, Dr.Southgate was a Fulbright scholar in Ecuador. He returned to the same country in 1990to work for USAID. Between 1994 and 1997, he directed the Latin American StudiesProgram at Ohio State University.

Douglas MacNair, Ph.D.

These tools also helpclients in the identification, prioritization, and evaluation of risks and opportunities, interms of the environment, financial criteria, human health, and business reputation. Aspart of the services provided to clients, Dr. MacNair has designed surveys of professionalstaffs for public agencies and corporations, facilitated focus groups, designed scoringalgorithms, and developed statistical models.
