d i
9 To offer special courses in Water Technology including M.Sc
(Ag) or Ph.D in Water Technology 10
Objectives
1. To introduce and evaluate equitable distribution
practices in irrigation commands.
2
2. To promote the conjunctive use of rain, surface
and sub-surface ground waters.
3. To conduct research on water requirements and
irrigation schedules of various crops and
techniques for less water use, especially for rice
c op
crop.
4. To introduce and evaluate sprinkler and drip
irrigation systems for field and other crops.

Water Requirement of cultivars under aerobic and
t
transplanted
l t d conditions
diti during
d i Kharif
Kh if 2007,
2007
ANGRAU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad

Salient observations:
1. The available cultivars/varieties developed for transplanted and
rainfed upland
p conditions and hybrids
y perform better both under
p
aerobic (4.07-4.57 t/ha) and transplanted conditions (3.68-4.6 t/ha).
Hence, there is a need to evaluate suitability of some of popular
varieties for aerobic condition.
2. Around 200 mm of rainfall during kharif can be effectively utilized
for rice production in aerobic rice.
3. There was a saving of 31-37 percent of water under aerobic
condition
diti as compared d to
t transplanted
t l t d condition
diti
4. The water productivity is higher in aerobic rice than that of
transplanted rice
5 The aerobic rice can be successfully adopted in paddy grown areas
5.
under wells and canals by adopting proper varieties

Aerobic rice - College of
Agriculture, Rajendranagar

13
Salient observations:

•The aerobic rice responds to applied nitrogen upto 150

Kg N/ha.
•With
With increase in N levels, the water productivity
increases.
•All the varieties/cultivars responded similarly under
aerobic conditions
conditions.
•The grain yield was higher under aerobic condition than
that under transplanted conditions
•The response to applied nitrogen was higher in
transplanted rice due to late planting than in aerobic rice
