Dear Clint,
Thank you for inviting me to the preview of the Discovery Channel special based on Jerry Blaine’s book,
The Kennedy Detail. At this writing, | have read the Prologue and Introduction and the PPD trip to NYC in
early November 1963.
Seeing your faces (Win Lawson, Jerry Blaine, Lisa McCubbin, Ron Pontius, Tom Wells) on that stage in
Gaston Hall, Georgetown University said it all for me. I was never so proud of each of you.
‘Many books have been written about JFK’s untimely death, but no book, not one, speaks of the
unspeakable grief and tears, endured in silence for these almost 47 years. My own tears were flowing
after reading the first 20 pages. Why? Because in the guts of most every agent, current or retired, it
rings true. And as we all know, there is nothing so beautiful and so healing, nor so ruthless, as truth
and nature. So, | think Jerry's book will be a success.
‘And, Clint, | also deeply appreciate your presence with me down at FLETC last September, to brief the
staff and two classes of young agents. There was dead silence and rapt attention on their faces. They
realized they are facing a future with many uncertainties. But wasn’t that true at every moment, with
every protectee we were working?
Being worthy of trust and confidence is a profound burden. As Vice President Humphrey used to say,
“The robe of responsibility is not a cloak of comfort.”
There will always be much love for you guys on the stage last night. To me, your faces and your voices
