Dear Senator:

I work for the contractors who removed the debris at the World Trade Center site on and
after 9/11 terrorist strike. Last week, conservative Republican Governor/Congressman/
Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee addressed the issue of the failure of this Congress to pass
H.R. 847, the bill that helps 9/11 responders with health and compensation benefits and helps the
contractors by capping their liability.

In an incredible and serious interview with John Stewart on The Daily Show, Mike
Huckabee said the following:

“Every Republican should vote for this [the 9/11] bill.”

“People do some pretty heroic things when they serve as first responders.
Those who went into the ashes of 9/11 went into some of the most hideous
stuff that perhaps has been inhaled by human beings. And yes, we owe it to
them. I don’t argue that at all. And I wish the Republicans would say we’ll
fight the battle, but I also wish the Democrats would be willing to not make
this a part of a political battle.”
“It [the Zadroga Bill] should be passed.”
“I wish the Republicans would just say, “We’re going to do it, because if it
needs two [Republicans], there ought to be 25, 35, 45 Republicans
supporting it.”
--Mike Huckabee (December 16, 2010) commenting to John
Stewart on The Daily Show
I urge you to listen to the words of this fellow Republican and to pass the bill.
Republicans cannot be seen as standing in the way of such an important federal responsibility to
the people who helped our nation in its greatest time of need since the attack on Pearl Harbor. I
urge all of my former Republican colleagues to stay and complete action on H.R. 847 before the
Christmas break. The responder-heroes of 9/11 really need the Senate to do the right thing.

Sincerely,

Robert Livingston
