This studio interdisciplinary non-traditional time-based course is open to all
fine performing and communication arts disciplines.
Students will be introduced to the basic elements of performance art,
while examining the work of early through present day artists.
Based on studio projects, visiting artists, discussions and critiques,
students will produce personal and collaborative works in a variety of sites and
settings, creating and performing their own projects in art venues and public
places.

Sue Carman-Vian is a painter/performance artist directing her own performance
group Catharctic Circle and exhibits her paintings, drawings, and performative
costumes. Her performative films have won awards at such film festivals as the
Ann Arbor Film Festival and have venued at the Detroit Institute of the Arts. She
created a billboard gracing Michigan Avenue with a Michigan Council for the
Arts grant.
