The Authors:
MICHAEL G. BUCK 
is a resource forester with the Hawaii Division of Forestry andWildlife. He joined the Division in 1977, and currently works in its resource inventory,research, and remote sensing programs. He holds a bachelor's degree in resource manage-ment from State University of New York, Syracuse (1976).
TIMOTHY E. PAYSEN,
aresearch forester, is assigned to the Station's chaparral and related ecosystems researchunit, with headquarters at Riverside, California. He earned a bachelor's degree in forest man-agement at Humboldt State College (1969), and a doctorate in applied statistics at theUniversity of California, Riverside (1978).
