to its kind, and all that creep on the earthaccording to its kind. And Elohim saw thatit was good.
And Elohim said, “Let Us make man inOur image, according to Our likeness, andlet them rule over the fish of the sea, andover the birds of the heavens, and over thelivestock, and over all the earth and over all the creeping creatures that creep on theearth.”
And Elohim created the man in Hisimage, in the image of Elohim He createdhim – male and female He created them.
And Elohim blessed them, and Elohimsaid to them, “Bear fruit and increase, andfill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of theheavens, and over all creatures moving onthe earth.”
And Elohim said, “See, I have givenyou every plant that yields seed which ison the face of all the earth, and every treewhose fruit yields seed, to you it is for food.
“And to every beast of the earth, and toevery bird of the heavens, and to everycreeping creature on the earth, in whichthere is life, every green plant is for food.”And it came to be so.
And Elohim saw all that He had made, and see, it was very good. And there cameto be evening and there came to be morn-ing, the sixth day.
Thus the heavensand the earth werecompleted, and all their array.
And on the seventh day Elohim com- pleted His work which He had done, andHe rested on the seventh day from all Hiswork which He had made.
And Elohim blessed the seventh dayand set it apart, because on it He restedfrom all His work which Elohim in creat-ing had made.
These are the births of the heavens andthe earth when they were created, in theday that
Elohim made earth and heav-ens.
Now no shrub of the field was yet onthe earth, and no plant of the field had yetsprung up, for
Elohim had not sentrain on the earth, and there was no man totill the ground,
but a mist went up from the earth andwatered the entire surface of the ground.
Elohim formed the man outof dust from the ground, and breathed intohis nostrils breath of life. And the man became a living being.
Elohim planted a garden inÂÅen, to the east, and there He put the manwhom He had formed.
And out of the ground
Elohimmade every tree grow that is pleasant to thesight and good for food, with the tree of life in the midst of the garden and the treeof the knowledge of good and evil.
And a river went out of ÂÅen to water the garden, and from there it divided and became four riverheads.
The name of the first is Pishon, it is the one surrounding the entire land of Àawilah, where there is gold.
And the gold of that land is good.Bdellium is there, and the shoham stone.
And the name of the second river isGiÁon, it is the one surrounding the entireland of Kush.
And the name of the third river is Àid-deqel, it is the one which goes toward theeast of Ashshur. And the fourth river is theEuphrates.
Elohim took the man and puthim in the garden of ÂÅen to work it and toguard it.
Elohim commanded the man, saying, “Eat of every tree of the garden,
but do not eat of the tree of the knowl-edge of good and evil, for in the day thatyou eat of it you shall certainly die.”
Elohim said, “It is not goodfor the man to be alone, I am going tomake a helper for him, as his counterpart.”
And from the ground
Elohimformed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens, and brought them tothe man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called each livingcreature, that was its name.
So the man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the heavens, and toevery beast of the field. But for the man
