Meeting called to order by Bryan Ball at 6:37 PM.
The minutes from the June meeting are distributed and read.
7 NYS Supreme Court Questionnaires sent out – 4 responded
- Endorsement to take place at August meeting to allow for more responses
Judge Eugene Fahey – NYS Supreme Court
- Spoke about experience as city and supreme court judge
- Support of marriage in specific case of two women in Monroe County
Judge Jeanette Ogden – NYS Supreme Court
- 15 years on bench in criminal and family court
- Spoke about custody issues in gay relationships
Chris (rep) for Cynthia Appleton – State Legislature
- told about community involvement
- supports LGBT issues openly on her website
- Bruce Kogan motions, Tom Gleed seconds, motion passed to endorse
Catherine Nugent Panepinto- NYS Supreme Court
- Spoke about experience as a law clerk, matrimonial referee, trial lawyer
- union organizer, community activist
Judge Betty Calvo Torres – NYS Supreme Court
- told about being a youth counselor, DA office, lawyer, judge
- does pro bono work on domestic violence cases
Judge James McLeod – Erie County Court
- 12 years on bench, currently county and family court judge
- Spoke about task force on health issues on east side
- Bruce Kogan motions, Carol Specer seconds, motion passes to endorse
Curtis Haynes – Buffalo Common Council Ellicott District- reelection
- spoke about economic development, job creations, safe communities
- voted for domestic partnerships registry and hate crimes bill
- Bruce Kogan motions, Tom Gleed seconds, motion passes to endorse
Eric Schneiderman – NYS Attorney General – not present but sent in questionnaire
-Tom Gleed motions, Kitty Lambert seconds, motion passes to endorse
Decided to postpone endorsement in 58th District
SDWNY to pay for Kitty Lambert membership in HRC
