Balance Your Life
1. Simpliy.
Stop or a moment and think about what is stressul or you.For many people, it’s that never-ending “to-do” list that grows each day.We all have those lists o things to do that go on orever and overwhelm us everytime we look at them. We then increase our stress by trying to do more than onething at a time.Just or today, try ocusing on one task at a time rather than multi-tasking.
n
I you’re working on a paper, stop and just work on that paper.
n
Don’t turn the TV on in the background or stop to answer your cell phone.
n
Just set a time limit and ocus.Write a new short to-do list or today that only includes 3-4 items.

2. Unclutter your space and lie.
Cluttered surroundings add more stress to our lives. Even i we aren’t consciouslyaware o it, all that visual distraction can actually cause stress in the background. Take alook around the room where you usually do your schoolwork or your job search:
n
Have you gured out the best place to study?
n
Is it set up so you can easily nd what you needs?
n
Are the items related to your top three goals easily accessible and available?
n
How long do you have to search or your keys in the morning?
n
How oten do you grab an item o clothing o the oor o your closet- (OK oncein a while, but is it every day?)
n
Is your desk/chair comortable?
n
Do you have photos up which remind you o who/what is important?
n
Are you making it easy to accomplish what you want?Review your answers and start making changes to your room. Remember, the changesdon’t have to be major. Sometimes just moving a ew things around can make all thedierence. The point is to develop an environment that meets your needs. What two items could you move away rom your work area that wouldhelp reduce the clutter and visual distractions. Do it.

3. Learn to take power naps.
I you need a ew moments to de-stress consider taking a power nap.A power nap is just like it sounds—a short nap taken in the middle o the day orwhenever your energy slumps.
n
Start by nding a good place to take your nap—even i it’s in your car in theparking lot. (Be sure the motor is o and the emergency brake engaged.)
n
Use your cell phone timer to set a time—approximately 15 minutes o rest.
n
Even i you can’t sleep, try meditating. Just ocus on your breath.
n
Get up when your alarm goes o—anything longer than 20-30 minutes willactually make you more tired and sluggish.
n
Stretch, move around a little and get back to whatever you were doing. Take note o when your energy starts to sag today. Instead o grabbinga power drink, try a power nap and see what happens.
